While recovering from the past weekend of scattered deals and in anticipation of the next SuperSale, I am weary of having several threads related to the SuperSales at Domain - MyDomain - NetFirms - Dotster.

Since the promos often work at more than one reseller, I would love to have a single thread to watch and participate in, if you agree, hang out here and watch this thread!

All NPers are welcome to post coupons and promos here as long as they are Domain - MyDomain - NetFirms - Dotster. That way we all have a better chance at awesome savings as soon as the promos are live!

The usernamex Guide to SuperSales

SuperSales are promotions done by the family of registrars under Domain.com, including MyDomain.com NetFirms.com Dotster.com

About every 10 days to two weeks, one or more of these registrars runs what I like to call SuperSales - with dot COM / NET domain registrations for bargain prices, $1.99 - $2.99 - $3.99. Sometimes the specials are good for multi-year registrations, sometimes only the first year is discounted.

The super fun part is they let you use coupons ON TOP of the promo, so there have been specials as low as $1.39, $1.59 is more common, and $1.99 is still great any time!

If you are new, the best choice is usually MyDomain, since their renewals are second best (to Domain) and I have not seen the $1.99 special ever offered at Domain direct

A great way to get an account set up is NOT during the frenzy of the SuperSales, and a trick you can use without having to contact support is to buy the easiest to type/remember cheapest domain you can, like whatever ngTLD is on sale for $1.99, that will be your username. You can drop the domain after a year and your account will be fine. Otherwise get on chat and they can set you up ahead of time without having to make a purchase.

To make it easy for everyone, if you can BOLD any coupon codes, that would be super, and if you tested coupons successfully, please mention the reseller where you tested.

Friendly Heads up for everyone. It appears the DomFam is participating in expired auctions and it is possible you can lose your domain if you do not renew by day 29 AFTER expiry.

didn't firgure it out exactly.. but some gd expired auctions start on day 23 aftr exp.. then most other on day 26... and if your domfam domains shows whois on tucows.. it seems those never go to gd exp auctions.. so they stick around til day 40 in panel..

from my exzperience of course. yours may vary or be different.. so keep an eye and experiment folks!

so far, the earliest a gd exp aucvtion bought domain was pulled out from my domain.com was day 36.. latest day 38.

For me personally, to play it safe, will be using day 28 after expiry. The only workaround I can think of is to look up all your expired DomFam domains at GD and see if they are listed, however the risk would be if it had already been listed and received a Closeout purchase, it won't show up there anymore

Some of you like to live dangerously, so report back here if you experiment and push the limits and figure out any helpful hints!

My only experiment was a domain that obviously nobody wanted : grin : on day 39 was able to transfer to a sibling.

any idea when this change begins and they appear on nj?
and on which day past expiry until which day the nj auction would run?
this can help determine for people the possible timeframe for their domain panel removal

This is already the case. I'm tracking a domain that was registered with Tucows (through some reseller or sub-registrar). It's currently in pre-release on NJ. I'm not sure when exactly it went into pre-release though...

I see some of my things on nj too now..
they are 38 dayus past expiry and 2 days left til end of nj auction

I guess that means we shouldn't really expect anyting tucows to be taken out of domain.com panel til day 40 then. always good to know.

Perhaps. But then this will also mean you might have to pay a restoration fee which is far more expensive than renewal

there is no restoration fee to pay on sis companies as long as they're in your panel

Just a word of warning. It might deserve its own thread, too.

Earlier today I initiated the transfer of 2 .info-s to Dotster. Base price of transfer is $9.46/domain. I successfully applied a 18% coupon, the total to be paid next to the checkout button showed the discounted price ($15.52 - for 2 domains). Hit "checkout" - and got charged $18.92, according to the receipt and to the msg from the bank.

I asked about this in their chat window. I was told that coupons aren't good for transfers. Upon their request I started another order to see if coupons apply successfully for transfers - and it did with the 15% coupon used: http: //imgur.com/a/ 7QaIW . Then the chat agent told me that their backend system will ignore the price discounted with the coupon and will charge the base price, even though it was nowhere reflected/indicated on the checkout page.

I asked the chat agent to open a ticket and get back to me with something official on their side.

I'm in fact overcharged ad not sure if their practice is legal at all.

on the many charges I had with them, with coupons, regs, transfers etc.. the price I saw on checkout screen was in all cases the one I was charged to card.

@domaineng - my experience has been the same as @alcy - every transaction has been the exact amount that was shown in the cart. HOWEVER - I typically have used the coupons that have a set time limit, rather than the evergreen coupons, which is what you are using. They do have limits to the coupons, so if you had already used up your limit for those coupons, that *could* be an explanation. I agree fully it is very odd that you were charged a different amount than what showed in your cart - if I had reached a coupon limit, it would usually show the error as coupon invalid.

Just so you know, there is a good chance there will be a better coupon for 4th of July, if your transfers can wait a few days. If that is true, I would also set up at Domain or MyDomain since they have lower renewal prices than Dotster

i have not tested but someone above just did and noted to all transdfers only work on netfirms with the code. as they did many times beofre only on netifrims.. remember 2$ transfers.. etc?
