While recovering from the past weekend of scattered deals and in anticipation of the next SuperSale, I am weary of having several threads related to the SuperSales at Domain - MyDomain - NetFirms - Dotster.

Since the promos often work at more than one reseller, I would love to have a single thread to watch and participate in, if you agree, hang out here and watch this thread!

All NPers are welcome to post coupons and promos here as long as they are Domain - MyDomain - NetFirms - Dotster. That way we all have a better chance at awesome savings as soon as the promos are live!

    The usernamex Guide to SuperSales

SuperSales are promotions done by the family of registrars under Domain.com, including MyDomain.com NetFirms.com Dotster.com

About every 10 days to two weeks, one or more of these registrars runs what I like to call SuperSales - with dot COM / NET domain registrations for bargain prices, $1.99 - $2.99 - $3.99. Sometimes the specials are good for multi-year registrations, sometimes only the first year is discounted.

The super fun part is they let you use coupons ON TOP of the promo, so there have been specials as low as $1.39, $1.59 is more common, and $1.99 is still great any time!

If you are new, the best choice is usually MyDomain, since their renewals are second best (to Domain) and I have not seen the $1.99 special ever offered at Domain direct

A great way to get an account set up is NOT during the frenzy of the SuperSales, and a trick you can use without having to contact support is to buy the easiest to type/remember cheapest domain you can, like whatever ngTLD is on sale for $1.99, that will be your username. You can drop the domain after a year and your account will be fine. Otherwise get on chat and they can set you up ahead of time without having to make a purchase.

To make it easy for everyone, if you can BOLD any coupon codes, that would be super, and if you tested coupons successfully, please mention the reseller where you tested.

I just want to share that few days ago I transferred domain between resellers, so it is possible.

I had my domain at Domain.com, my buyer hosted his website at Netfirms and was satisfied with it so he asked me to transfer the domain there.

I wanted to be sure so contacted Domain.com support via chat. What I learnt was that my buyer is in a position to choose if he wants to just add the domain at his Netfirms account (after I removed it from my Domain.com account), or he wants to add it with transfer. So he picked second option and transferred the domain with addition of another year to his domain's registration.

I was not aware of this possibility, actually I've thought it was not possible at all, hence wanted to inform you about this finding.

    Helpful Hints:

By default you are agreeing to hosting autorenewal on your 2nd year so you MUST opt out and I personally remove paypal and credit card on file just in case. I actually have a pre-paid gift card with $5 balance I am not spending on purpose so I can keep it there as my "on file" credit card, I'll check if you can have no funding source.

Customer Support is STELLAR although it can take some time especially during SuperSales. WHEN IN DOUBT, START A TICKET/CHAT! Generally, it seems all of us who use them tolerate a bit of buggy-ness and hassle for the huge savings, seriously, $1.59-1.99 vs $8-9 - you can register four to five times the number of domains for the same cost.

Even though the $1.99 Promo prices can come and go like a flash, I love that all their announced Coupons give an exact expiration and limit. Also if you end up using up your limit with one reseller, you can have separate accounts with each reseller and typically the Coupon will work at another reseller.

Have your Standby List ready - when the Promo starts, it is easiest if you have a list of domains ready to go. I call mine my Standby List, which are names I like and will register, but I wouldn't regret not getting if they were registered by someone else in the meantime.

Upon reflection, when the SuperSales allowed two year registrations I now wish I had spent the slightly extra cost then. Many have posted that they used the two year registrations to pare down their lists and get fewer better quality names for longer, the two year prices have been a far better value compared to renewal or transfer.

Feel free to share any more helpful hints while we wait in eager anticipation of the next Promo : grin :

    How does this work?

I read a complaint somewhere where someone had a problem and they had to go through their reseller and the reseller never responded and they were screwed because the main registrar said they had to go through their reseller only.

Is this how it works at Dotster, Netfirms and domain/com?

No to both of those questions. They do not have free privacy. NameSilo does. And you can push to another account, I think, but there is a process. You need to contact customer service, I think. I haven't tried it yet, though.

Domain.com is the Parent Company, MyDomain NetFirms and Dotster are resellers. They are each independent resellers, and they each can choose to promote the Coupons. Yes it is true that you must work with the reseller you chose to register the name. I am skeptical of a complaint that was wholly unresolved, if you start a ticket and it goes too long you can always bump the ticket and if you get on chat and they have to do more than what they can solve in real-time in chat, they automatically turn it into a ticket

I once had a confusing issue that was escalated twice and took longer than I would have liked, but eventually it was solved. (It was a transfer in and the issue was actually the losing registrars fault not MyDomain)

@Crusader3000 - sorry, privacy is NOT included for the Promo Prices, it is an extra ~$9 if you want it. My trick to privacy is to rent a private mailbox and use that as my address, plus I have a domain I use only for whois email, so I can get inquires but also control spam.

I have asked this question a few times before but it has not really been answered completely.

After you make a sale, how easy is it to transfer out to the seller or push to another reseller acct at Netfirms, Dotster and MyDomain?

Why does everyone hate on these promos I love them. worst case scenario you rip the sale do all your outbounds, and if one comes in you just pay 8 bucks to transfer to godaddy.

Also as far as push it's not that hard guys... all you have to do is press live support tell then to remove the account / have the new party add the domain in their cp using the add existing domain tab if anything its way easier then asking for their info / waiting for reply then send

You sell the name contact them and when they are ready you have support change for you.
