Just received this email from Dan.com about commission increases (snippet of email):
Thoughts?

the question is will namecheap select the same domain from sedo feed or from afternic feed...namecheap is also an afternic partner. But now if we use dan's landers we'll have 15% fees for namecheap's mls sales, except if we list our domain on sedo, we'll have 20% fees ---> If i continue to list my domains on sedo, i'll pay more fees than if i dont !!!
the question is will namecheap select the same domain from sedo feed or from afternic feed...
Continuiing having our domains listed on sedo could result in more fees, why taking the risk ?the question is will namecheap select the same domain from sedo feed or from afternic feed...
The downside is that it must be a buy-it-now price otherwise you charge 15%. Another downside is Sedo MLS which has 20% fee vs 15% Afternic (from February). Another downside is Sedo dashboard account - absolutely disgusting to use it and look at it. Customer service is also not good and much slower than DAN and often with copy-paste replies. There are many downsides about Sedo and there is a reason why so many people stopped using Sedo in recent years. And the only reason why some people consider Sedo now is just the 10% fee with buy it now setting. I will personally keep searching for another alternative. We don't see any downsides!
Happy that you like our new saleslander.
Yep. Some press release will one day announce that GoDaddyThe final step will be to shut down Dan and raise Afternic commissions to 20%.
I only tested a handful of names (the 4 shown in table and about a dozen more checking some other things), but it seems that if the Sedo price is equal or less than the Afternic price, NC will list Sedo minus a little discount (e.g. $4850 for a $5000 listed name. However, if the Afternic price is less than Sedo, then NC seems to list that, without discount – for example when I tried a name listing at $5000 at Afternic and same name $10,000 at Sedo, both fast transfer activated, they listed it at $5000.the question is will namecheap select the same domain from sedo feed or from afternic feed...
Or maybe most go to Sedo, Namecheap /Daaz instead. They could raise it to 95% commission, they know most domainers will stay
Heaven forbid...Unless GoDaddy buys all of them too
Mark my words, if Sedo/HD/Buy Domains were put up for sale, GoDaddy would lick their lips. The worrying thing is they probably won't be stopping anytime soon on the acquisition side of things....
Since 2012 they have bought or merged with at least 1 company - normally 2+ per year........
Which leads on to this year.....they most likely will be looking at 1+ acquisitions this year - will it be on the domaining side or other parts of the business?....time will tell
Things are not going to improve in the Godaddy / domainer relationship..... if anything it will get worse going forwards....
Brandbucket requires exclusivity, so names listed there cannot be listed on Afternic. However, I think I finally understand when the 25% would apply. I do have names listed on Sedo and they are also listed on Afternic. In this case, if the names sells via Afternic (and not Sedo MLS) then GD would take 25% (rather than the 20% I'd pay at Sedo). I've gotta consider whether the extra 5% is worth pulling names off Sedo (since I assume Sedo MLS and Afternic basically overlap other than GD itself). So Afternic is more valuable, although I do sell about the same # of names via Sedo as I do Afternic. I'd actually save 5% by doing this - since most of my names are <$5k. Although I do wonder about losing the European/Chinese sales, which is mostly what I get via Sedo.
These are the daily stats for today, 6/1/23

So the migration towards the monopoly has started...
Wow thanks for posting, the data does not lie.
Parking, while not perfect, does offer a solution to some consumers/users looking for stuff on the web. Now less internet consumers - our customers - will get services they need.
This is not top priority for the fuedal landlord, who only cares about profits.
Correction: the feudal landlord only cares about servicing their humongous debt burden.
...as far as my higher upside domains, many of which I have unpriced...I am having a hard time seeing myself use Dan.com with a 15% fee going forward.
It just doesn't make sense to generate the lead from traffic to my lander, negotiate, then also pay a 15% fee.
I am considering other options.
Yes absolutely.And ParkingCrew too...

I think it's 5% at Dan - even with the changes - if you bring the transaction to Dan? I could be way off on that but perhaps James can clarify.I will keep my priced domains @Afternic, but as far as my higher upside domains, many of which I have unpriced...I am having a hard time seeing myself use Dan.com with a 15% fee going forward.

I was using Voodoo landers in the past for years, and only moved these to Dan.com in the last couple years (or less). These domains were not in GoDaddy's ecosystem before, and might not be again.
I am considering other options.

if they want it, they have enough money to buy them allMark my words, if Sedo/HD/Buy Domains were put up for sale, GoDaddy would lick their lips.
I use their landers and like to negotiate via their system. They have a very streamlined process, there is no denying that.I think it's 5% at Dan - even with the changes - if you bring the transaction to Dan? I could be way off on that but perhaps James can clarify.
There is also SquadHelp who charge a reasonable fee if you bring the transaction.
I'm thinking of trying Efty. For the moment I just switched the "buy domain" landing page to @Sedo .. not sure about the lander quality, but I understand they've done a lot of work on UX.
I feel exactly the same way, on all 3 counts.I considered 9% a cost of doing business.
However, 15% for me is going to make me consider other options.
I also fully expect that 5% option to go away shortly.
Ah, I see it now. Apparently they promote it via Sedo and Dan (on our behalf) and I can set it up via Afternic as well. Of course this will result in a 25% commission (as of Feb 1) but still, likely worth it for the extra promotion. They need to update their FAQs which state we cannot do this...BrandBucket listed names can now be listed at Afternic/Godaddy for the last few months. See your profile section at BrandBucket.

It is not uncommon for companies to adjust their pricing or terms of service, and there are generally no laws that prevent a company from making such changes. However, if a company engages in monopolistic behavior or engages in anticompetitive practices, it could potentially run afoul of antitrust laws.
Antitrust laws are designed to prevent companies from engaging in practices that might harm competition and consumers. These laws generally apply to businesses that have a significant level of market power, and they prohibit a variety of practices, such as price fixing, bid rigging, and other activities that might harm competition.
It is difficult to say whether the actions you describe would be considered monopolistic or anticompetitive without more information about the market in which Godaddy operates and the extent of its market power. If you believe that Godaddy's actions may be unlawful, you may want to consult with a lawyer or seek legal advice.
@James Iles
I saw this question asked earlier, but I am not sure if you answered it.
Can you please confirm that EVERYONE is subject to these same new terms?
Another way to phrase this - can you please confirm that no party is getting preferential treatment, AKA sweetheart deals, where they are paying a lower commission.
It is important that EVERYONE is operating under the same terms whether you have 1 domain or 1 million domains.
Please confirm that.
