The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
I am still wondering what was the motive and the strategy behind the purchase :)

I'm assuming a pile of domainers on a forum benefits a parking service

Motive cannot be found out until you know if NP was making any money other than barely meeting its expenses IMHO.

.pro, .tel, and .xxx are worthless. ppl reg them hoping that one day, crap will turn into gold. It's kind of a spontaneous-generation mindset.

That and the motive and strategy behind all registrations of .CO, .PRO, and .TEL. :bah:

Wow, just caught the little disclaimer before reentering this thread. Never saw one of those here before.

I have a feeling this could turn into a massive spam thread. :notme:

Here's a question... Perhaps related to the original post.

What would you have valued these forums at? What sale or buy price would you have been satisfied with? Would you have rather been the buyer or seller?

I think if i owned this forum i would be spruiking my own registrar service ....seems like a good way to value add

Admittedly, it's been a long while since I've been active on the forums, but I do check in from time to time. I used to be very active, used to be a moderator and wouldn't call any other place home. The only reason I haven't been active is due to a long series of personal issues. I have met a lot of great people here, learned everything I know about domaining from this forum and I owe a lot to RJ and many other members of Namepros.

I will say to RJ, thank you so very much for the great community you have provided over the years, best of luck in your future endeavors and my prayers are with you and your family during these difficult times. Much love brother!

To Matt... Congratulations on your acquisition and I hope that you fully appreciate what you have here in Namepros. The reason I called Namepros home and tried to always give back to it when I could is because this place has always been a real community, much like a family. There were always members willing to help each other learn and grow and prosper together and that is what it is all about. You won't find that anywhere else. I hope you keep that in mind going forward. The members here are your greatest assets.

welcome back RR, hope you stick around again, always liked your posts and input!!(and i hope the personal endeavors are resolved) :)

As for Randy's post, i totally agree with him , heck the rules are here for a reason, and there is even a sub forum to address issues....and to be honest in my opinion , the mod" overreach" stopped with chosing new mods a while ago(prior to that it was one of the reasons why i was not that very active myself)...but you never will satisfy ALL of the members, so i hope Matt will find the right balance...:)

cheers

chicken, you might be right on since the parking biz is going down the sh$tter but then i believe Matt is seasoned enough not to shove everybody the remains of his first biz in the face...(swallow,swallow anyone?) lol

Parking is definitely not in the shitter IMHO. People have been saying parking is dead for years now, but it's been pretty stable I believe.

What isn't stable is domain traffic. Which is in the shitter. You used to get 30% of traffic from Google / Yahoo, now you don't even get 3%. That is what killed parking for most people around here.

Most people that are doing well are those that catch names with a lot of backlink traffic, type-ins, mistypes, etc.

Those that have generics that used to get a lot of organic are at the lowest point, and it probably will not recover because Google & Bing are going to get even more strict on it.

I've never seen Bodis as a parking service because I also see the things I am working on, on my end.

Namepros was not intended to be a good fit for Bodis if Bodis were to remain solely a parking service. ;)

PS
I'd like to add that organic was also the highest CTR/RPM traffic, so a 30% drop in organic traffic is like a 60% drop in revenue if it doubled your CTR. I mean, the math is off the top of my head right now, but that's basically what I've seen.

That and the motive and strategy behind all registrations of .CO, .PRO, and .TEL. :bah:

And the motive behind selling .coms on ebay

All I can say is that whatever I do with Namepros will benefit the users here and make everyone proud to be a Namepros member!

Right now I can't think of anything the majority would oppose here, most changes are really positive. But if there's any change that I think may be controversial, I'll post a poll or ask the staff first of their opinions.

You'd be surprised what people can oppose :)

But first things first. You need a new name so we don't confuse you as someone only interested in parking - something like Dot Com Lord would work.

Good point. Might do that soon. :)

Sure there's a lot of changes that some users get angry about 90% might like and 10% might hate. I've learned that now after 4 years of Bodis, if there's any changes that might have the slightest negative impact, it is best to give them as an additional option or something that user has control over.

For instance, when we add a new forum skin, it'll be an extra skin first, then if enough people like it, we'll make it default.

And we'll always keep the old ones for those that hate it.

If it's something that has to be a yes or a no, then I will consult with a poll or the staff.

For those of you requesting more transparency between Staff & Members, the following is a thread I closed, updated transparently, and left visible to serve as a test in transparency. This is what full transparency looks like, is this what you are wanting? http://www.namepros.com/domains-for-sale-make-offer/744015-union-ca.html

(Please note, the comments in the sales thread were left on purpose for this test, normally we remove them as they are not allowed as per the marketplace rules "All questions / comments should be sent via PM")

Now that is EXACTLY what I want from Namepros.

I've posted a thread or two that disappeared. No PM, no notice, nothing... it was just gone. I thought it was a glitch so I posted it again. This got me yelled at by a mod because I should "know better" and I should somehow just know to check the dead thread forum. I didn't know where these posts got moved to, there was no reference to it. Finally found the dead thread section buried in a sub-sub-forum waaaaay at the bottom of namepros.

That was just one of the issue I've had with the forum, which caused me to post here less and visit less. I even went so far as to set up my own forum.

Transparency is definitely a step in the right direction.

Just getting the feeling of what members want.

so can you confirm if *you* post a sales thread and someone comes in and says... hey shit name would you be ok with this new openess?

Graveyard should be where it goes with all the comments viewable by anyone who commented or started.

For people that "viewed" it - as long as a thread was tagged as deleted by WHO and WHY then that's transparent enough. We could always go ask then. The problem USED to be that no one knew who or why something was deleted.

So if a line was left that said:

"Thread moved to graveyard by Scorpion because he has the best moustache of any mod in the world"

Transparency only is needed by those that "knew" about it to begin with.

That comment would be deleted - not the whole thread, right?

But you know you cussed in a non adult forum? Just saying that I don't give a $hit.:xf.love:
