hi,

can someone explain me the .xyz hype since one year?
i don't get it?

it seems all important are already gone anyway, but how is interested in xyz?
average people who are 0815?
sounds so boring to me?

so auction.com is crap now?
lets buy auction.xyz?

or its better for a company brand to buy 961428.xyz, because people can remember that easier...

thanks

freaky

I think it's because it doesn't form an english word or an acronym, it's just 3 common letters that everyone can relate to all over the world

Like you mentioned in your post, it's just a "hype". Just wait and watch the same domains at the time of renewals.

Responsible buyers of any extension will do well. Irresponsible, frivolous buying no matter what extension will lead to empty pockets.

It's because:
a. Google bought one for an obscure website that hardly anybody visits. So it's now fashionable for a while in the eyes of gullible people.
b. Negari makes a lot of noise and provocative statements, just to get media attention. He's the Donald Trump of domaining.

Oddly enough I agree with you're statement of Negari being most like Donald Trump in a domain world. That doesn't go to say though both men have powerful connections through either luck or time but in the end they have a likability.

With that being said .xyz is just another extension proposed by ICANN & Daniel Negari ! Mr. Negari got publicity from google buying ABC.XYZ and the fact that Google offered him an undisclosed amount of money for the entire Registrar of XYZ and he respectively declined ! ;) but imagine this. It's Google. They control the internet really ! They probably offered him a couple hundred million at lest. I like .XYZ and I believe the western world will come to realize the extension .COM has an O in the middle making it more inferior to the said .XYZ ...

Might take a long time (10 Yrs) but time will only tell. I for one like the extension and will continue to invest in prime keywords.

Dot xyz looks and sounds cheap, no serious brand would use it as their sole online presence.

So let me ask you a question if you saw a solid gold brick laying in the middle of the street by the federal exchange in nyc & covered in dog shit for one year, would you not pick it up ?

Actually the answer is 'No, I wouldn't'. The reason being simple, if a solid gold brick were lying in the middle of the street for a whole year, whether covered or not in whatever, I would think it safer to report it and wait for the bomb disposal experts and Feds to examine it.

(I know of course what you mean and yes I am being a little facetious with a flippant reply, but then again I do not think the .xyz suffix is a gold brick.)

Apparently XYZ has a meaning in Chinese pinyin. And the .XYZ company has been to China several times to promote the extension, which was a smart idea.

They are cheap to register, if renewal fees are cheaper than market value in one year, people will hold onto them. Especially short letter and number Chips.

When .XYZ first came out I thought it never had a chance and would flame out. So you really never know what can happen, even if you have a lot of experience in domains. No one really knows which extensions will succeed the way the market is now, though some people like to think they know.

...and by the time you discover it's not gold, you are all in that dog sh*t :(

btw where did you get that idea about Google offering Negari to buy xyz? its pure speculation..

Brands cannot control how they are perceived by the public. A name has a lot of power.

Hence -

GoldLoans
xyzLoans

For me the top one looks and sounds better.

Brands should be meaningful across the globe, that is why .com is a sure bet everytime.

What does xyz mean.....ummm..not sure....didn't have any good ideas....a bit muddled....

Anyway, if you love it, then that's great but it simply does not appeal globally.

I would use one of my doggy poop bags to pick it up, and clean it later with a hose or in the Hudson River.

If the baggie wasn't big enough then I'd get a Safeway bag.

True that .com is a sure bet, trouble is we are 20 years into the internet, and the 20 year old who is starting a company in 2016 just came up with the great name of GoldLoans... but wait, he can't get GoldLoans.com because it's already being used, or the domainer owner wants $25,000 for it. So does he pay up, does he look for a .net or .org which is also taken but probably cheaper to buy, does he hand reg a new gltd, does he try to get Gold.loans, or GoldLoans.bank, or GoldLoans.co???

We are well into the times when someone else has already got the .com you want, and the .net and .org and other top choices are likely gone to. So those going into the market looking for a domain need to decide do they pay a lot of money for their first choice, if it's even for sale, or do they seek an alternative. And there are a lot of alternatives being promoted these days.

I agree with your points entirely. This is why .org was a great idea for orgs like charities etc. And .info for information sites. The extension of the domain name is part of the brand and really does change the perception of the audience.

I just personally do not think .xyz looks very serious, this is just my opinion and others may think it is perfect.
