Hey Guys,

Quick question, as stated in the title, would you rather pay a larger fee upfront for a logo to be designed for a brandable domain (i.e. Namerific, BrandRoot, ect), or wait weeks if not longer for one to be created?

I'm asking because it seems the only brandable domain name marketplaces take quite a long time to actually LIST the domain for sale. I've been thinking about how to greatly decrease the down time. It seems one way to do so would be to pay more upfront in regards to logo creation.

If you would prefer to pay more upfront to get a logo created faster, what would your limit be? What's the most you would like to pay if there was an extra designer bonus once the domain sales, and if there were no designer bonus?

I'd rather pay nothing and not have to wait. :D

Just to be clear, when I say pay more, I mean like $50 tops for a logo. That would be without a designer bonus once the domain sold.

Are you paying more upfront to actually sell the domain? If so, why?

Just getting a feel as to how domainers feel. When you get a domain accepted at Namerific or BrandRoot, it takes WEEKS before it's actually listed for sale. Just wondering if there's a better way.

So if domainers were willing to pay more upfront for a logo, which is usually what takes the longest, then what would they be willing to pay? I'm thinking anywhere from $25 - $50 up front to create a logo, with a 5% - 10% commission once the domain sells.

Any other thoughts from anyone?

I don't use any of those sites, but, I'll add my thoughts anyways...

I think it would be a tough sell to charge $50 to list domains that would be considered reg fee domains (wholesale)

If I was paying extra money to list a domain for sale I'd want that money to be for promotion to get my name in front of more potential buyers, not for a logo, especially if I don't get any rights to the logo. It's not like there's a sea of buyers chomping at the bit to buy these domains. Whether the name is listed now or it waits 8 days it still ends up the same.. the name gets mixed in with a bunch of other names that are tough to look at without a pretty logo.

I understand. What if you had all rights to the logo?

A lot of those logos are just using existing fonts that are colored in.
I could get my 6 year old niece to do some basic ones for you if you want.

It may be a benefit in some instances. It wouldn't be completely wasted money if the domain didn't sell. While the domain is listed I guess rights to the logo wouldn't matter because as I understand it, these sites require exclusivity.

The exclusivity portion is a hard one for me. I don't like to give anybody exclusive rights to sell my domain if they are just listing it among hundreds of other names.

So just thinking, if you had to pay around $50ish dollars up front for a logo for a domain, and you had all the rights to it, and there were NO exclusivity situations and you could sell the domain on whatever site you like, would that be feasible?

Kind of...

You'd still need to take care of the big one. Eyeballs/Buyers

Of course. Just trying to think of a better/quicker way with less fees and more benefits for domainers.

i may say something, that noone will agree but... from my point of view Logo is the most important artwork that represents your brand, company, its your visual identity. the artist that creates the logo needs to be ready to feel the brand to create it just right. i rather wait for the right inspiration of the logo creator, than to pay in order to speedup and get the speedup effort, and not the one that would come to the artist when he is really ready for the artwork.

Sounds like you're going to start a brandables site. Honestly no, If I have 100 accepted names I don't want to pay $50 per=5k. I'll either wait out the process, or start my own personal brandable site. It does seem once you have an in, or part of the inner circle, brand ambassador and such you'll get in the door quicker. I'd rather pay more on the back end in any case.

Here is what you need:

Fonts
Sothink Logo Maker Professional 4.4
Photoshop CS6
AlienSkin Filters

This 'logo wait time' is for the birds... just do it yourself. These literally took 10 minutes.

Are the amazing, nope... did they get the job done... yep.

Otherwise just hire a person and contract them out to get paid for $30 per logo that sells.

I don't know the metrics on how many end users actually use these logos from the brandable marketplaces, but I can imagine the number is very low.

It's the name that matters. presentation is nice, but when it comes down to it they are looking for the name with a .COM address. I guarantee that they have their own inspiration for what their logo should look like and will make a designer crazy with their over the top nitpicking.

So bang out a half decent logo and you are done.
