How much would you pay for the .COM domain that is an exact match to your last name?

Yes, it is true that availability, competition, name commonality, and geographical location are factors.

In general... how much would YOU pay?

I'd probably snap it up at around $500. Higher and I'd still be interested, but I don't always have that much spare money lying around.

Depends on your last name. My is the 16th most common in the USA! I'd buy that in a second.

But I see a lot of last names expiring all the time that could be had for $12 for obscure names.

I agree with Beezy, it depends on the name

I wouldn't pay $100 for my surname, but if it was Smith, Jones, Taylor, etc...then there is a big market for them

Hand regged my last and my first/last years ago. If I didn't not sure what my max would be but wouldn't doubt I'd definitely go xxx-xxxx on it.

I paid regfee because I was early to buy relevant domains.
I probably wouldn't pay a lot because I don't use those domains actively in fact. I only use them for E-mail (sometimes) or to put on CVs. I treat the domains as defensive registrations strictly.

Yes. I'd use it for a vanity email and a walker ecommerce site. ;)

Gotta monetize it somehow for the price tag that would have. I won't even ask.

My last name is so uncommon that it would take a lot of time and effort for someone to persuade me to pay more than a regfee for it ;)

Yes, I would purchase my surname for under $1500. I would, however, prefer my first name and would pay significantly more for my firstname.com.

since it's still unregistered, I'd have to say not even regfee. Not even with a godaddy coupon.

The domain that is my name has been held by one person from way the heck back when.
Tried once to buy it and it was no way, as this is my name and I will keep it.

The only time I'd need a .com in my last name is if I had a company named after it but I have no real need for a .com in my last name.

Estibot values my last name at $28k. But I think it would cost way more than that to wrest it from it's current owner. Which might just have happened because the website is down, and there looks like there is a new owner, since I last looked, maybe over 5 years ago. I did manage to regfee my first/last name with 2 different spellings of my first name and another two short-form spellings of my first name, and over time I managed to acquire both the "e" and "i" prefixes on my lastname. One of which I had to wait for a 10year registration to expire. lastname+any prefix (like "co" as an example) are all taken. My lastname is also taken in all gTLDs and most ccTLDs. So I think no chance to get my lastname.com. Sob :( But I have enough to be going on with :)

$100000 is what I'll want to pay
$1000 is what I could afford to pay.
$0 is what I'll actually pay.

My last name is a common word, and would probably cost well into 6 figures. Even my firstnamelastname.com would set me back a several grand at least. I know the owner, but haven't even asked about a price. Don't think I would use it anyway.

I'm cheap, so rather than pay the fortune it would cost to reg my current last name, I'd probably have it legally changed to "oewiruoer" or "kjhfdgkjfh" so that I could register it on GD for $0.99.

@discobull - How do you pronounce "kjhfdgkjfh" :)

I'm not exactly sure, but based on what I see routinely presented in this forum as pronounceable 4 letter domains, there are apparently many folks that can manage those letter combinations without difficulty. :)
