How much would you pay for the .COM domain that is an exact match to your last name?

Yes, it is true that availability, competition, name commonality, and geographical location are factors.

In general... how much would YOU pay?

I don't think I would, unless it was very very cheap. I do own my last name in a .net though.

I own a surename in a .com, just not a very common one... hopefully someday someone out there will just haaave to have it :D

The problem with uncommon surnames is there isn't much demand :(

Oh I know, I don't own it due to it being an uncommon sure name, but rather it'll make someone a good start up business name as it's catchy, and would make a good brand... It just happens to be an uncommon sure name also.

OK. That makes sense. I have a few italian/spanish surnames for the same reason :)

My last name sold on Namejet 2 years ago for $2,500. I was in up to $1,500 and kick myself for not going higher. I would love to own it.

I rather donate $1500 to a charity
or
better, buy it for $1500, which it will never sell for coz it is a premium word, flip it for $150,000 then give 50% to charity and be more pleased

Estibot values my last name in .com for 165k.

I'd pay 5k for my last name in .com

My last name in .com has been regd since 2003 (while .net was registered in 1999), but the owner has only used the .org version of the name, for a hobby website for his family. The website has not been updated for 3 years.

The .com redirects to the .org site, so I think there is a chance I will be able to buy the .com from him, since he only uses the .org, and that site is dead anyway.

I already own firstnamelastname.com, so I do not have any particular need for lastname.com, but it would still be really nice to own it. I would be willing to pay maximum 2K for it. Since all the biz, info, us, me, and other extensions have been registered by people with the same last name, some also run their business from it, I doubt it will be enough to get the owner to give up the .com. I guess the people who hold the other extensions must have made him an offer before going with the non .com options, as it would be much better for running a business from a .com say than a .biz, .info.

If you had a last name like Johnson, Or Smith, or Steel, or Gold, then $1500 might certainly be a bargain

find a good domain name that is available before you name your kids

I doubt the owner of my surname is going to sell it for lower than $XX,XXX. But if it were available under $1500, I would definitely buy it.

Would not pay much because it's very uncommon. Only around 1000 bear the same surname, so I'm amazed it's taken in 4 ccTLD's, and in the .com, .net, .org and the .net.
