immediately after the announcement of the new console name me and numerous others began buying up the wiietc.com, .net, and so on domain names. My question is do you guys think that this was a good idea?

I am very new to the domain market and this is my first foray into buying domains for sites I do not plan on developing.

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.

Yes if you check around here those that got the premium names already sold them for 20x or more what they paid to register. Unless they announce a new name (I believe they kept wii at E3 so why would it change) the value should keep going up. I'm sure almost all the good names are registered by now so you would have to develop a decent name to get good value.

It is too late to jump in the Wii domains now. Basically the first day was your best chance, there were still a few good ones on day two, but after that all the good names were gone. :)

I think it's a good investment!

Wii was the 5th most seached term last week:

:)

ps - I have:

wii-blogs.com
wii-chat.com
wii-info.com
for sale.

I have wiicolors.com developed > minisite
I am thinking of ideas for wiicolor.com for the future...(it's like "we color") and maybe doing a site where users could add their own graphics/colors/logos to the sides of the console. Probably more of a children's, wii-fan's coloring site. :D

So CFGURU what you are saying is that those names I just regged are bad. I actually think they are good and was surprised they were still out there. WiiMotion - The control stick is all about motion9Sounds cool as skit on emotion too
WiiRev- Wii and rev short for Revolution the original pre-launch name
Wii4All-- The word Wii is pronounced as we and the meaning behind it is that it trancends languages and cultures and is for everyone. It even says so on the Nintendo main site under the heading "PHILOSOPHY"
Wii4Everyone- See above

See the Official Nintendo site here and check out "PHILOSOPHY"

UH just thought of another two and went and regged them as they were still free

WiiVirtual.com
WiiVR.com
VR (VirtualReality) found in the Thesosaurus and Dictionary.
I like the way it sounds when you say it WHEEVEEARE

And just regged WiiTogether.com
And WiiConnect24.eu

:)

there's always good names available, but pretty much all the premium .com wii domains are long gone.

Unless you're actually planning to develop a site for Wii, avoid the Wii domains. There are far too many Wii domains out there compared to the number of Wii domain buyers.

Listen to that -RJ- guy, he knows what he's talking about. There are many, many Wii domains out there right now ranging from good to very poor. Unless you can come away with a very prime piece of web wii real estate, my advice would be that your money is better spent elsewhere. If you did come across something, you'd want to tuck that one away for a while as well, IMHO.

The Wii market is saturated right now.

I would have to respectfully disagree. In my opinion, if you find a good/decent Wii domain, it is worth the $7 registration fee. Even a few days after the whole Wii announcement thing, I registered Wii24.com, and have already received a $150 offer on it. I also have some other domains such as WiiCrazy.com that are getting some interest. Sure, the market may be "saturated" at the moment, but all that shows is that it's not necessarily the best time to sell. Later on in the game, however, you obviously won't have the opportunity to make worthwhile sales if you didn't work on aquiring the domains now.

So I think it's worthwhile to register Wii domains now while there may still be some decent ones available - or maybe even take advantage of the saturated market and get some bargains on domains that others regged - and then be patient to wait until later to sell them.

Just my 2 cents... :)

well i bought quite a few that i thought were good domains, although not premium. I think most of the premiums were gone in an hour after the announcement. their in my sig, the question is are those worth anything? I keep trying to get rid of them and just never seem to find the right equlibrim of price and name.

Have patience grasshopper :) wait until the console is actually released and you may find a surge of interested buyers.
