I really don't get this. Why the insane mass registrations of wii domains? Most of the wii domains I see posted and listed for appraisal are still available for xbox 360 and PS3 versions of the same name- both of which (historically) have been vastly more popular and owned most of the market share in the past vs. Nintendo. Is it because it's such a short name, or so ridiculous? I don't get it, really. I have one name (in my sig currently) that might be used as a "wii" name if someone wanted to. I don't plan to reg any and think there's about a dozen wii names that have any value (wiigames /wiiforums, wiicheats, etc). Beyond that they all look the same to me. I'm open to enlightenment...

I disagree about Wii dying off quickly.. the console shows promise and Nintendo is clearly excited about promoting it, as are the gamers and general public.

I do agree however that we always seem to see a huge rash of inappropriate registrations with this sort of news.. might as well reg "wiitoilet" or "wiibacteria" as some of the ones I've seen.

Wii is just one of those novelty words that will die off quickly, and the only ones that really win are the registrars.

I dont think that's got a whole lot to do with this craze of registering wii names. The Xbox360 thing has died down and that's still their latest and focused project...

i was just going by what you said -- "Wii is just one of those novelty words that will die off quickly"

if you meant "the wii domain landrush will die off", then you just made an obvious observation describing the word "landrush". big push at first to get thru the gate, then it slows down.

besides, i'm not entirely sure why people are complaining about other people registering names. if i regged wii242ksmceecieoawqzzz.com what difference would it make to you? that sounds hostile, but i dont mean the inferred tone. just a question...

For my part (and one reason I started this thread), I'm not complaining. I'm (1) wondering what I might be missing and (2) if I'm getting it - that is, seeing a whole lot of worthless wii domains being registered - then I'd like to help enlighten those who would still try to jump on board. It's no skin off my teeth if people register worthless names, but if I were the one doing it I'd appreciate reading a thread that helps save me some money.

daze, it doesnt hurt or bother me and hopefully anyone else at all.

If anything the other skeptics like me are trying to inject some sense into the ones that go overboard with the whole landrushing thing, and get them to stop wasting their money.

fair enough.

the same thing happens each and every time with new technology announced (see 360, vista, psp -- even politics and fads like the milliondollarhomepage) and its going to happen each and every time as long as domains are affordable. one man's trash is another man's treasure. this applies to women as well. ;)

if you dont see the value in getting the name, just count your lucky stars that you didnt spend your money on it.

I think I just heard the tear of a Nintendo Marketing exec. hit the floor...

With the high-stakes gaming market, I think a third best player naming their latest and greatest more than just a novelty. My guess is that Wii will try to become a household name like xbox and PS2/3...

My bottom feeder names are wii-cheat.com & wiigod.com...

Wii's

Don’t be too skeptical, a domain is worth what you can sell it for. I only bought 2 Wii domains, WiiDoctor.com and NintendoWii.net, and I really like them both. I've already received an offer of $800 for NintendoWii.net and several $50-$100 offers for WiiDoctor.com (The best domain for a Wii repair-shop).

And I'd still buy domains like WiiCity.com and MyWii.com for $200 a piece. You cant argue with domains as brandable as that.

I think you may be right here and I said that I was going to stay long way away from these. 2 reasons. I know squat about the gaming world and the really good ones were long gone.
But being weak of mind I fell off and reg'd WiiFo-com (as in wii info or wii forum) because it just sounded so cool and memorable. If I knew anything about that world I would throw up a quick forum. Might anyway if I can come up with some good topics. Hosting is free and I can put up a SMF forum in a couple hours or so.
