It's quite simple really...

If you take the Top 500 keywords only then you have 500^3 = 125 Million combinations

Consider Top 1000 keywords for 2 word combos 1000^2 and you get 1,000,000. Significantly less which means more likely to get a sale. If you only focus on Top 100 keywords for 2 words, then you're left with 10,000 combinations. At 10,000 options to consider for potential end-users, your chance of a sale is excellent.

Factor in alternative extensions (non-com) then 3 word domains should be avoided entirely. And I would go as far to say avoid 2 word domains in non-com extensions unless you are a seasoned veteran of domain investing.

Not to say unicorn sales don't happen, but the odds are not in your favor.

And like most rules in domain investing, there are times when they can be broken when you know what you're doing.

That's pretty much the amount I'm working with.

Code:
912 prefix.txt
1245 suffix.txt

Common phrases and sayings, for 3+ words are generally safe. I sold a 5 word domain on payment plan once (the name of a popular song/not copyrighted/generic). However, I have dropped many more 3+ word domains over the years than sold. Probably 300x more.

Sometimes, three words can be valuable.
But itโ€™s rare:

โ€œiLoveNY.comโ€ (This one is famous โ€ฆ)

I can think of several 3, and even a few 4 word domains that I would pay 5 figures for.

However, they are all terms where there is no better version.

The problem is when you add an extra word, like a prefix or suffix, that makes it superfluous.

The problem is that not every combination makes sense. Grammatic coherence, descriptiveness, etc. are key when it comes to desirability.

When you are investing in domains for brands you want to capture patterns in branding. Because most businesses are going to brand themselves and their products according to conventions.

Unless you are Mike Mann. I think he recently sold Reddoorstudios for $8888..

Mann is the long-tail master. No one better.

Here are a few of many i came up with:
RedDoorRealtySI.com
RedDoorEscape.com
RedDoorFS.com (RedDoor Fibre Studio!)
RedDoorCompany.com
RedDoorRealty.com (unaffiliated with SI)
RedDoorPVD.com
RedDoorGrill.com
RedDoorSupports.com
RedDoorRG.com
RedDoorHomes.com

Dont get me wrong, i would disagree with a lot of Mannโ€™s sales but this isnt one of them.
I see many some way Real Estateโ€ฆ โ€œStudiosโ€

May be a method to Mike Mannโ€™s madness.

Registered in 9 extensions, quite popular it seems.

I have sold a few (Term)Studio.com and (Term)Studios.com so it is not that surprising.

If someone has hundreds of thousands of priced domains, some are going to sell.

The question is will enough sell to cover the renewal fees.

I actually value your experience with โ€œstudioโ€ sales keyword over โ€œRedDoorโ€ companies.
There are โ€œstudiosโ€ businesses, too!
Overlooked โ€˜studioโ€™ word. Thank you for that!

Are they in a musical business youโ€™ve sold?
iโ€™m going to assume itโ€™s the music studio

It's a versatile word.

Music, art, design, dance, photography, etc.

Oh yeah; youโ€™ve broadened my horizons alright.
It's less of a head scratching sale than many others.

It's the type of domain you might be able to find on GoDaddy Closeouts from time to time, and an end user might be willing to pay $X,XXX.

Here are some active companies in various fields -

Mike Mann recently uploaded an excel with all his names on X, 200000 if I'm not mistaken, I was surprised to see many bad to mediocre names I would never consider acquiring. All priced from 1888 to 48888 or something..
Quite a few 3 word names as well.

Ok, but what if you only think you know what you're doing? ;)

I got a a 5k offer for one of my 3 words...i guess it depends on the phrase.
if it's not a decent to popular phrase i wouldnt register it.

It's all about if it's a three-word phrase or a two-word phrase with a superfluous word slapped at the beginning or the end. In the latter case, for each two-word phrase there are hundreds of three-word alternatives like thetwoword, goodtwoword, cooltwoword. twoworddirect etc. etc. so in most cases these domains have a slim chance to sell.

Back when exact match domains had a lot of power in search engines these type of names were easy to rank.

This wouldnโ€™t be your main brand website but youโ€™d have a network of dozens (hundreds) of these names bringing in leads.
