It's quite simple really...

If you take the Top 500 keywords only then you have 500^3 = 125 Million combinations

Consider Top 1000 keywords for 2 word combos 1000^2 and you get 1,000,000. Significantly less which means more likely to get a sale. If you only focus on Top 100 keywords for 2 words, then you're left with 10,000 combinations. At 10,000 options to consider for potential end-users, your chance of a sale is excellent.

Factor in alternative extensions (non-com) then 3 word domains should be avoided entirely. And I would go as far to say avoid 2 word domains in non-com extensions unless you are a seasoned veteran of domain investing.

Not to say unicorn sales don't happen, but the odds are not in your favor.

I sold a 4 word some time ago that wasn't a bad name.
Hi

i've been holding a 4 word com since 2006, and it still squeaks out $$$ a year in ppc.

imo...
Back when exact match domains had a lot of power in search engines these type of names were easy to rank.
Hi

those type of names also paid $$ per click, back in the good old days.

imo...

What would be the most valuable from this as a domain in com?
In a Nut Shell
In Nut Shell

Similarly.

I just spent $700+ for a (3) word .com the other day.

There are some occasions where there are no better, shorter versions of a term.

"Think Outside The Box" is a great example of a (4) word one.

Not a fan of 3+ words either, but I did pick up The English Pro in auctions recently.

My latest sale was a 3 word domain. Obv this doesn't mean all 3 words are good... but some are. it's silly to make a blanket statement about anything. The more experienced you are, the better you'll be able to ascertain what sells.

For example Keep It Simple is taken in 123 TLDs and has 20 live websites. Just one example of a solid 3 worder.

I mentioned earlier in the discussion that popular phrases can be an exception, but if you look at the number of 3 word sales versus the number of registrations you will see the odds are against the average investor.

KeepItSimple /com is a top tier domain, and if you are acquiring 3 word domains of this quality then you are not the average investor. Congrats on the sale, it's a great brand for sure.

There are some exceptions.

MyGoodWife may worth $50 but MyBadWife may worth $50,000 since not too many people have good wife.

Popular three and four word phrases etc can be great investments IMO. Mike Berkens sold some amazing three word .com's over the years. A couple which come to mind are ExpectTheUnexpected(.)com and MakeItPop(.)com. These can be great stand-alone brand names, call-to-action names and slogans for marketing campaigns, and more.

Someone should make a thread to showcase three word domains.. unless it already exist?
or three word phrases to make it worth the while.

maybe it can be used to keep track of sales and demand. afteall not all sales are reported

I have one amazing (****bydesign//com) for personal development, in fact this is the 1st domain in the world with words which end bydesign!

I think that the main reason in this(to not prefer 3-word .coms) is that they are Hard To Remember.

I may have an idea on what the name was (if that was a GD auction). So it's you...

It probably wouldn't be too hard to figure out. :)

I hand registered a three word domain name just today. I think they do sell sometimes.

VerifyItsYou .com

Sometimes being the key.

Most people are struggling to string two words together so safest advice is to avoid three until you really know what you’re doing.

Yeah but DoIt.com is 50x better and more end user possibilities.

sure is but do,com is 100x times better too

I was just making point about your 3word thing with doitnow

anyway
it's like I said not about words but overall length

long names are total shit. can they sell..yes... can u win lottery..yes. it's all about odds.

You're basically proving my point, that more words lowers the value.

Yes shorter is better, but that's not why 3 words are bad. There is plenty of 3 words that are shorter than many 2 words that sell, but 3 words still sell at lower rate. It has more to do with syllables and brand-ability. With 3 words, you have 3 syllables at minimum.

Which domain is better?

Champions.com or DoItNow.com ?

Both are 3 syllables, and doitnow.com is 2 characters shorter.

Or lets try QuickStart.com versus DoitRight.com?

DoitRight.com is one character shorter, but 3 syllables. Both are great names, but QuickStart.com is much better.

More words = more combinations which make it harder to sell. Also with 3 words, the names that are sought after are generally phrases which are less valuable than "Brands" because they have limited use.

agreed. anyway there is reason why there are tons of 3plus word coms left to reg

keep away
