When I was 11... Never collected them though, just used them for my site. (Yes, I had a site when I was eleven.) Apparently, my maturity was very low at that time, and I still can't understand why I registered that pointless domain name. I just let it die out on me

Forgot to mention, I bought my first domain in Dec 1999... but before that I registered it through register.com in 1997 and 1998 and didn't pay, that was back when you could register a name and they would bill you for it in the post... I just wanted to hold the name for a little while, I was also quite young back then so didn't realize how rude that was, needless to say they eventually put a stop to that method of payment... I was cheeky back then

How much were they back then? Weren't they $100? I remember searching for my first name (it was gone) and a few other names back then but they were a lot of money. And silly old me thought, "well it's only for businesses."

I think it was $100 for a minimum 2 year registration. Shortly afterwards it went to $70 for 2 years while NSI still had the monopoly. I wasn't lucky enought to go back far enough to when they were free.

...Can you imaging having a bunch of free ones (of course few did) and THEN being told they were going to $50 a year each?

I think my first was in 2000. I'm not 100% certain though, it may have been earlier.

Sorry, no name. It was for a business, business went bust last year (not mine) and the domain should be dropping any time now. I'm tempted to buy it.

Yes, I'll bet people let them drop like crazy unless they had them developed for a business or they were a family name. Or they had skads of extra money! :sold:

March 2006 - I will never register another name with iPower... I thought "Wow, they are so much cheaper than everyone else!" Now I know why.
