What makes a great domain landing page?

Hello!

We at DomaHub are currently beta-testing a new type of domain landing page and wanted to get some feedback / discussion started with the experts over here at NP.

We think that a great landing page can greatly improve chances of sale. However, a lot of domains that are available for sale look extremely out-dated and is poorly designed

For example--let's take a few domains and examine their landing pages--

HealthNHealth.com

Pros

• Easy to use buy now button

Cons

• Looks like a website from 1999
• The landing page on this domain name provides NO relevant information to the domain being sold.
• A 1 minute video explaining how a domain name is valuable (as if we in 2001)
• Testimonials on why HugeDomains.com is a trustworthy site

There is only three relevant pieces of information to the original domain on this landing page--the buy now button, the payments plan, and the domain name itself. This landing page looks more like an advertisement for HugeDomains rather than a sales page for HealthNHealth.

HealthyHeart.com

Pros

Cons

• No buy now button, must "inquire" about purchasing the domain
• Ads

Yeah parked domains might be okay, but you're doing nothing to increase the value of the domain. If anything, a parked website hurts your domain brand by associating your domain with negative and often irrelevant advertisements.

Oh dear god what is this website.

It's clear that there are a lot of really bad domain landing pages out there. Great landing pages can be built by the owner, but is extremely time consuming across thousands and thousands of domains. But what if that didn't have to be the case? What if domains that were for sale provided actual useful information automatically? Things like...

Custom Images / Branding / Color

Traffic data:

Demographics data:

Browser / OS data

Other Information / Portfolio

Just to make it clear, we don't actually have the above features currently, but we want to see if this is something the domain community would be interested in. We think we can create the better landing page for domains. A new type of landing page that displays relevant information, is branded for YOU and not the hosting company, and provides a great user experience for your buyers.

But to do that, we need your help. We realized that we need valuable feedback from the people who will use this product--the domain owners like yourselves on NP.

Thanks for your post, just to clarify. You mean, to provide the end buyer of the domain the ability to purchase the domain name? By "phrase" you mean domain name, right?

That's a good question. We're thinking of splitting into two groups:

Basic option:

• Free to list
• Limited branding / customization
• Mentions DomaHub on the page
• 15% commission (same as Sedo)

Premium option:

• $X / domain / year
• Unlimited branding / customization
• No mentions of DomaHub
• 0% commission

Both options will have traffic analytics, demographics data, portfolio listings, etc.

Read your survey, was going to do survey but since there was no statement stating that my email address will never be given out (sold etc)..I didn't.

How do you plan on dealing with domains with no history (hand reg etc)?

I always like seeing new things as options are good. The only downside I see is that since 2003 of selling domains I don't think I can ever recall an end user buyer that ever asked me for traffic statistics and I've sold domains anywhere from $300-$100k+. Generally when I've gotten those emails it's always a domainer looking to park it. End users generally come for a domain because they just like the domain itself and their development will bring the traffic. Most domains don't really have a ton of traffic so showing stats on those could be a negative as the majority of most domainers parking earnings come from 10-20% of their domains unless they specifically built a traffic portfolio. Most of the expired domains I've bought for reg fee and sold for thousands barely had any traffic.

There are scripts/plugins that currently exist with statistics features enabled but I'm more of a fan of simple/clean so I currently use...

Nice Background Image
Make Offer Form Name, Email, Phone, IP Address
Recaptcha 2 Simple Check Mark In Box

As the goal is to get the lead quick and not confuse them with data overload. If I was to expand on what I'm using above I think it would be more along the lines of buy it now/payment plan integration over statistics being shown as 14 years of end users I've never been asked for them. So if going the statistic route I'd probably set a disable feature if a certain traffic threshold isn't reached so if low traffic it doesn't show. Also have to kill off bots as my own sales pages get hammered by them and do get indexed so I'd have to filter that down if going public with stats so it shows legit traffic and not bot stats.

Sorry! We definitely will not be giving out or selling any email addresses we collect.

Any domain without history will certainly have to start building it once it is listed on our platform. That is certainly something we can set as optional though.

Data overload is definitely something we're also concerned about. So we will most likely have a default looking landing page with many visual elements being optional.

Disabling many statistics with low traffic is definitely something we will keep in mind.

Regarding the "scripts/plugins that exist with statistics" do you mind sharing the names of a few that you know of / recommend?

I love it. If I hated it I could change the settings. Seems pretty simple to me.

I think we can all agree that what you have provided @toughdomains is pretty freakin awesome. @DomaHub Id encourage you to check out their platform. I don't know how domainers do it with out great services and platforms like TD!!
