What domains do companies own that are not their Trademark or Brand?

Google.com owns/associated with 17,000+ domains! What domains do then own that are not related to Google?
Amazon.com owns/associated with 38,000+ domains! What domains do then own that are not related to Amazon?
Microsoft owns or is associated with 86,000 domains! What domains do then own that are not related to
Microsoft?

I'm not completely sure why they have so many domains and are only using just a few of them.

Does anyone on here know what domains these or other companies own that are not associated with their Trademarks or brands?

When I do a reverse whois lookup, I can only see part of the domain listed that they own.

This might help us know what these large companies are buying and investing in!

I know they own types of their trademarks and their trademarks in most extensions, but what do they own that is not related to their brands or trademarks.

Like google owns some alphabet domains that don't have google in them. They own domains that are just numbers. I'm sure they own domains with hyphens in them. They own domains that are extremely long. They own short domains too.

What the heck are these domains in their portfolios? If you know some of these domains or have list, please post it here.

They own a lot of ccTLDs too. Then, for each extension they will usually buy their brand names for defensive purposes. Think about it, Microsoft for example is not just one brand, they have many other brands or trademarks to protect.
Possibly some typos. If you do that for any open TLD, it's a lot of regs. Then they have names related to certain projects, past, present or future. Do the math :)

One thing you can do is get the zone file for .com or other extensions, and spot all the names using msft.net nameservers (I think it's something like that is used by Microsoft). You'll get an interesting overview of their portfolio (and strategy).

One reason they have those domains is for future projects that may or may not materialize.

Thank you for the help but I take the short bus to school :) I tried to figure out what to do but am lost.

I did find a 6N.com that google owns and it has two "4's" in it. For shame.
466453.com

They also own DodgeBall.com which is old news to most, but I didn't know that. They are not using it either.

Just some interesting stuff to figure out while we wait for our domains to increase in value.

I understand them owning domains related to products or services that they offer but things like a 6N domain have me wondering....

466453 I think this somehow resembles "Google" in writing.

They use them for testing IMO. They develop software that has to communicate with 1000s of websites and clients and while some of the domain names may be defensive registrations, they must have lots of domains that they use to test their new projects in a large network etc.

I have no proof of this, I am just speculating as to why they would need 10.000-s of domains.

I know google paid 6000something as a play on their domain, so I know it's the 6=g
the 9=g is more like it but they wanted to be cheap asses about paying the guy.

They would rather pay $6k vs $9k of course.
You would think they would at least try to acquire the numeric equivalent to their domain beforehand. It's listed for sale at $2423
