Good news is I got another offer through the @toughdomains platform! It was better than the offer for rideoakland! But still too low. Since I am technically still negotiating I dont want to say what name it is.

I decided to go with the short, sweet, to the point response to his offer.

Thank you for your offer. I am going to have to decline.

So negotiations may be over . . . :)

With all due respect you might want to be a tad more personal and open ended with your response.

Thank you Sir/Ma'am
I appreciate your genuine offer but presently it falls short of current bids. If you decide to raise your offer I would be more than willing to entertain and provide a smooth transaction.
Thank you
Blah blah

Exactly my point. It's more open and welcoming and leaves room for further negotiation.

I would have said thank you for your offer and interest in domain blank.

I am currently taking offers in the XXXX range for this particular domain.

After that I might add 1 or 2 refined points about what the selling points are but still very brief--- one sentence no rambling.

Your response is fine if you were not planning on selling your domain at all, however, if the domain is for sale, I think you should reply saying that his offer is below your targeted price, so he can make you another offer if he wants.

If I contacted someone about a domain and I received your reply from him, I would think that he was not planning on selling the domain at all.

Sometimes it's better not to answer at all...

Why didn't you counter?

I don't get a lot of offers but I don't think it's an appropriate reply if you want to be selling your names. I would hint at some sort of intention that the domain would be available for right price. You could go on to say something on lines of "Hi ****, I appreciate your offer but we're quite far apart in terms of value of the domain, I would let go domain for right price". You could even try replacing "right price" with the number you want. Best of luck!

Yeah .. from multiple @DomainSherpa interviews I've noticed a line commonly used is something like:

I'm sorry, but $____ is below the amount we are willing to let it go for. But please send us your best offer for our consideration.

First part is something similar, essentially saying "no for now". But while the 2nd part might not be exactly word for word, it's pretty much that .. meaning that you've dismissed their current offer, but if the new number is good enough you might reconsider in the future.

Obviously "future" could be "in 2 minutes" if the number is right .. but even if the number isn't right .. I think it's a good way to end things so that at least you leave the negotiations with an actual number from the potential buyer.

I think his offer was low. How many times does an offer go from 150 to 2500? Maybe every blue moon? I think he may be kicking tires.

Plus and this is important info I omitted
previously . . . I have someone helping me market and sell this domain, and the offer was an attempt to do a run around him.

I had an offer that went from $50 to a sale at $2,000

I think it's time I had a few more of those. :)

This guy wasn't interested in Oakland, that was another guy.

Good point, at least I think so! You are saying nothing ventured nothing gained, right? Or the quiet tongue is the hungry tongue . . . right?

If you own limited domains and get limited offers you need to try to negotiate on every one. Now if you receive many offers a day and have a great portfolio you have more room to not engage low offers.

I would just say something basic that includes you appreciate their offer, it is less than you would sell it for, and either give an actual price or price range.

Thank you all. There have been some very solid and helpful suggestions!

I anticipate and hope that future encounters wit end users will be better because of the dialogue here!

Just sold Travelbasket.com about a week ago. Their offer was $20, I countered $2500 and I ended up selling $2150
