On Wednesday I ordered 12 .eu pre-registrations at godaddy.com. My credit card was charged $239.40. Three days later all 12 pre-registrations are still shown on the godaddy website as being 'available' for pre-registration. In the last three days I have sent five emails to godaddy's customer support asking them to explain why these names were shown to be available when I had paid for pre-registration. With each email I sent off my customer reference number, a domain name in question and a polite letter. None of my five emails have been answered. Yesterday, after I submitted an email a message came up saying there was a one hour response time, and for another email it stated there would be a 4 hour response. Obviously, none of these message were true because a day later I have not received any response.

Can anyone explain why godaddy are acting in this way?

I also notice on the godaddy website the name "eurid.eu" is shown to be available. There is already a website on http://www.eurid.eu because they are the registry for .eu. There is no way this name is available or will ever be available. Yet, godaddy will sell you a pre-registration on this name for $19.95.

As far as I understand with Godady they will take multiple registrations for the same domain name - If they secure the name and there are more than one person wanting it, it will go to a bid process - Just like Pool

This is against all .eu rules :|

I say you use Registerfly
i cannot find any .eu at registerfly??

Once an application has been accepted EURid will contact the applicant with instructions for submitting proof of the rights claimed within the application to EURid's Validation Agent.

AGAIN:: ( taken from www.eurid.eu )

Before the start of the live registrations under .eu there will be a so called "sunrise period". During this period public bodies and holders of certain rights (e.g. trademark holders) will have the opportunity to apply for the registration of the corresponding .eu domain name. The sunrise period will consist of two consecutive phases each lasting two month.

:$: This pre-registration is NOT FREE OF CHARGE :$:

During phase 1 only domain names that correspond with:
The full name of a public body
The acronym by which a public body is commonly know
If applicable, the territory which is governed by a public body
Registered community or national trademarks
Geographical indications
may be applied for by the public body or holder/licensee of the trademark
During phase 2 domain names that correspond with
the names listed in phase 1
other rights that are protected under the national law of the member state where they are held such as:
company names
business identifiers
distinctive titles of protected literary and artistic work
unregistered trademarks
trade names
It is important to remember that not all the rights listed are recognised in each member state. Applicants will be required to provide the legal basis that grants the right in community law or the national law of the member state where the right is held and provide documentary evidence which is accepted to demonstrate the right under that law.

These applications will be evaluated by appointed Validation Agents and in case of approval the ultimate registration of the corresponding .eu domain name will be done automatically through the accredited .eu registrar chosen by the applicant.

The start of the "sunrise period" will be announced by EURid well in advance in order to allow sufficient time for the introduction of the applications. In order to get informed about the latest details on the "sunrise period" it is recommended to pay a visit to the main site of EURid (www.eurid.eu) at regular times.

Once the "sunrise period" has been closed and the live registrations start, domains will be attributed on a "first come, first served" basis. If, for some circumstances, you would have missed the opportunity for a protective registration during the "sunrise period" and your domain has been registered by somebody else, you will still have the possibility to claim it back by making use of the alternative dispute resolution procedures.

Question:
Dear Sir/Madam,

I have the domain names companionship.co.uk and united-kingdom.co.uk.
When I saw on your website that I could pre-register companionship.eu
and united-kingdom.eu I naturally
thought this was a good opportunity to get the European version of my
co.uk names. Since I paid for the pre-registration I have been
completely abused as a customer. My emails have been ignored and you are
holding the .eus on my .co.uk open for registration to all-comers. I
have asked for an explanation as to why companionship.eu and
united-kingdom.eu are still shown as available on your website when I
have paid to pre-register them. But godaddy and its staff have been
COMPLETELY UNPROFESSIONAL in irgnoring all my emails and not providing
an explanation. I am asking you one more time for an explanation before
I complain to my credit card company that godaddy has taken money off my
credit card without providing any goods or services in return.

I have brought this subject up on namepros. See for yourself :

I Totally Agree, especially as they are collecting payment for them as far as I can tell, big fat interest on your money !!

I wouldn't count on getting any top tier domains using godaddy. If you really want "companionship.eu", I would try to find a company offering one pre-reg per registration. I would also make sure their ques are "short". Godaddy is going to have a quite a few which means it could take awhile to get to your domain....meanwhile, "registrar x" who limits their pre-regs will have already gotten your name.

One thing. Godaddy does have more than one registry. They have Godaddy, BlueRazor Domains and Wild West Domains where they could conceiveably increase your chances of getting a domain as they would most undoubtedly use all three in the landrush process.

My advice: Use Internetters. I used them during the dot us landrush and got some decent names. They are very nice to deal with as well...at least that was my experience 3 years ago... I checked their website out, and it doesn't say anything about dot eu pre-regs, but you can certainly try to contact them to ask: [email protected]
