Well I was sitting and viewing some of the sales threads and honestly I have come to a conclusion after doing almost 180 transactions on namepros. Now it's certainly true if you have a great domain name chances are it will sell without much effort...But lets say you don't have a totally great name...what are you to do to sell it for a profit??

Well I have sat down and talked with a friend who is also a member here at namepros and I pointed out some very basic reasons why his auctions or sales don't go well. It all boils down to how you write your sales threads....Do you slap the name/expiration/price and hit post? Well If you do and you fall into the second category then why would you expect buyers to purchase?

Sales Copy is what you need to work with ....You need to motivate the buyer and stimulate there creative juices. If you own a 4L domain give them ideas and prospects ....Make them think about the possibilities and potential with development. I can't tell you how many threads I see that are so basic that It bores me to view them.

Personally I want to open a thread and be told a mini story "sales copy" and get excited about winning the domain name! I want to remember to check the domain to see If I'm still winning the auction/sale.

So basically What I'm saying is simple...the amount of time you put into posting the thread is absolutely critical. Try doing some of the research for your buyers...there more likely to thank you in the end with some great bids. Try adding color/Bold/Italics and things that make your thread stand out from the rest.

The absolute best thing you can do is research what your title will be because this can make or break an auction/sales. For example view these 2 titles and tell me which one you would more likely click on:

2 Domains going cheap
2 Great .com Domains with Huge Development Potential!

My money says the second one....and it's really simple things like your title and layout that can make you the sale or keep you from making sales. I have seen this first hand when I first started selling on namepros I used the slap-it-together method and had very low bids. Now I put about 20 minutes worth of previewing and adding content before I post and most of the time It pays off nicely.

Long post I know........One more tip after you have being doing this for a while people build trust with you because they know your posts will be informative and concise. There is nothing like having a group of buyers that know your posts won't leave them wondering what the expiration date is .....or price......or missing information period

Ok my rant is over but i just had to get this off my chest and I hope it helps someone out there make some sales!!

Cheers

I agree...
At least two of Blake's auctions have caught my attention.
He's fun, and that avatar sure doesn't hurt either.

I'm probably not clicking on either one since the domain isn't in the title. I can't spend an hour a day clicking the mysterious titles on the for sale lists and auctions. Especially since 98% of the time the domain inside ends up being a letdown.

I understand your view totally I was merely giving an example of how powerful proper sales and titles can be towards selling domain names. I totally agree having the domain name in the title is the way to go..if you have a huge lot pick out a few that are real gems to grab attention to the other names. Keep it coming I love to hear feedback on this as this issue is one the community should embrace!

Put the domain in the title of the ad.
It saves everyone time and that way, you can be sure that the views are from people who are possibly interested, rather than those who are just curious because of your ambiguous upselling.

IMO, this should be a mandatory rule.
Any domain Sell/Trade ad must contain the name in the title. (if multiple domains are being sold, the TLD's must be included in the title so people who aren't interested in .info's and .tel's don't have to waste their time)

"SUPER AWESOME DOMAIN INSIDE!!!" is counterproductive as hell and frustrating when you click only to find out that super-best-homeloans123.co.qx.lol is the "awesome" domain in question.

As a buyer, it has gotten to the point where I don't even bother looking at ads that insist how "awesome" or "great" the domain is (for largely the same reasons I don't buy domains containing those terms, either).

If the domain is really awesome, you wouldn't need to insist upon it's awesomeness- you could just post the name itself right in the title and have unlimited interest.

I tried posting a few groups of domains in Namepros but there are so many domains being offered in the sales threads that your thread does not stay visible for long. Once it scrolls to another page, who is going to read it? So instead I respond to posts in the Domains Wanted section (with adequate budgets).

Good point. New threads are quickly buried.
I also agree the actual name should be in title, there are so many threads posted every single day - we just can't read them all. Gotta love the misleading titles too (super amazing premium etc) :yell:

I get your point, but to be honest, I'd be more likely to click on the first one. I've seen countless ads touting things like "huge development potential" - then it turns out the domains are worthless. (After all, almost any domain can do well if properly developed, right?) Meanwhile, the fact that the heading is written that way makes it very likely that the domains will be way overpriced.

At least the first heading gives me a reasonable expectation that the domains will be priced more in line with their actual value.

Not trying to be contrarian ... just pointing out how some of us have been conditioned to think. Thanks for sharing your thoughts about the matter.

See this is the reason I love Namepros....Everyone is open about what they look for in threads and why. Now prospects for selling on namepros have quite a few clues and what buyers are looking for and how to hook them in and get the sale!

Thanks all for sharing your insight on this matter keep it coming...this could prove to be a very valuable thread on selling on namepros!

I think having the name in the title solves the issue. As none
of us have "the" answer to a names value I like to decide that
on my own. If the name is in the I can instantly decide if I
want to look further.

Once I'm in the thread I do like to see a nice well thought out
ad placed. I have been prompted to buy a name based on the
info given in the ad. At least until I verified it.

Facts are important but embellishments are a turn off.

Well, i guess if you are an experienced Domainer, you really don't care about colors and all that stuff and also don't care what the seller is saying about the Domain Name. You make your own research (if you should be really interested in the Domain Name). But i think it can be good for less experienced and new Domainers, if you give them ideas / more info and help them a little bit and also make a "nice looking" auction. So i do that too, or try to do that in most cases.

For example, the reason why i bought some DNs from Usualcliche was only because i saw that compared to many other DNs offered here, those were from an "ok" quality and reasonably priced for Resellers.

Oh, and if you want more view hits, then instead of something like "verygooddomainname.com in auction", you could also choose a title like ";)))" or "lol" in the title, and everyone would like to see whats in there....but at the end of the day, that doesn't help to sell it imo. Its like everyone going in to a shop, but don't buy anything.
