Im betting big bucks on VR domains have a great future and with the big boys buying up VR companies, mainstream is a stones throw away.....

Lots of VR+keyword.com taken years ago and I noticed this sale a week or so back -

VRTechnology.com $3688

This was a steel and I can soon see everything from VRPoker / VRCasinos / VRShopping / VRBrowsing / VRTours / VRWorlds / etc etc....having a high price tag even now at the start of VR hitting mainstream...

I have just paid $x,xxx for a name but will not be showcasing as the domain is in escrow at present....

Feel free to showcase your VR domains If you like...

Cheers

Price requests on the Afternic platform is a bit silly. If I wanted to set a BIN, I would have done so already. >:(

Well, it doesn't look healthy to me.

It certainly is healthy, because I know for a fact some new people come on here and see this thread and get all excited and register loads of names and then read some comments about "quality, not quantity" and slowing down on regging crappy names, and it ends up saving a lot of money.

I believe most of the people here are tired of this discussion and not only me.

Thats fine, just ignore my comments then, its totally up to individual whether they take it on board or not...I dont expect everyone/anyone to listen, Im just putting it out there

Deutsche Telekom to stream 360-degree Chili Peppers concert

Deutsche Telekom is due to air a 360-degree live-stream of the Red Hot Chili Peppers in concert, in what it claims is a first-of-its-kind broadcast in Germany.

The operator will stream the HD immersive footage from the Chili Peppersโ€™ September 6 gig at the Kraftwerk Berlin events space.

The footage will be accessible with a smartphone and VR equipment such as a Google Cardboard phone holder or Samsung Gear VR headset.

The concert is part of Deutsche Telekomโ€™s music community programme, Telekom Street Gigs, and will take place during German electronics trade show, IFA.

โ€œTogether with the Red Hot Chili Peppers, in cooperation with Warner Music Group Germany and thanks to the best network, we will create a new dimension of entertainment, using the 360-degree live stream and virtual reality technology,โ€ said Deutsche Telekomโ€™s head of communications and distribution marketing, Michael Schuld.

MovieTheatersVR - MultiplexVR - VirtualMovieTheater

Virtual reality is coming to your movie theater lobby

Virtual Reality Los Angeles has been holding seasonal conventions to introduce people to VR for more than two years. Usually the shows have focused on evangelizing on behalf of the technology โ€” touting its transformative potential in gaming, storytelling, and industrial applications. But this yearโ€™s VLRA Summer Expo found itself addressing an industry that has transitioned from theoretical to actual, with retail versions of the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive landing in living rooms, and Sonyโ€™s PlayStation VR waiting just around the corner. Virtual reality isnโ€™t just a futuristic concept anymore, but an actual market. And so the speakers at VRLA shifted their focus from niche technology tastemakers, to the endless buying potential of mainstream consumers.

"VR is now, but it always doesn't feel like right now," acknowledged Roy Taylor, AMDโ€™s corporate vice president of alliances, during the showโ€™s opening keynote last Friday. "But I'm going to talk to you today about bringing VR into a place where it's truly an industry. A trillion-dollar industry."

A huge part of that conversation continues to be the chicken-or-the-egg question of content. How can a new medium achieve widespread consumer adoption without a rich selection of experiences, and why should content creators invest money in building those experiences without a sizable user base or proven way to make money?

At VRLA, one possible solution stood out: movie theaters.

More specifically, movie theater lobbies, or any other space like a mall or museum that could be a friendly home to a walk-by VR station. The catch phrase is location-based VR, and while thatโ€™s largely been used to describe VR arcades or theme-park-style installations, Taylor took the show as an opportunity to introduce another option in the form of a pod called the VenueVR Gateway. Made by Awesome Rocketship, the concept is simple: a station with a motorized platform, haptic feedback, and integrated computer that can be used to power high-end VR gaming, with various configurations allowing sit-down, stand-up, or full room-scale experiences. The hope is that by offering an easy way to deploy pay-per-play VR stations, the industry can piggyback on top of movie theaters and other venues to create a profitable market for virtual reality developers nearly overnight.

Well said....its just advice because some of us have seen this same thing happen with every niche, VR is no different. The only way VR is lightly different is it may be bigger that 3D or Holo for instance, but that just means:

1) A lot more people jump on the bandwagon and register average/crap names
2) Those poeple register more names than they would have in holo, 3D or whatever other niche they invested in.

Look, this discussion about reg crap names is getting old, so lets move on and talk more important topics.

Such as VR being bigger than Holo. I disagree. Holo could well end up being multiple times bigger. There's a reason so many 'VR' start-ups, websites, companies are choosing to brand themselves as 'Holo' rather than VR.

1/ the HoloLens, Magic Lens and their rivals will replace the PC, smartphone, TV and even....the virtual reality headset.
2/ Holo is simply a far more brandable term. Probably also more international/multi-linguistic than VR (which is an acronym for an English phrase 'virtual reality').
3/ Everything 'virtual' or 'mixed reality' is essentially holo or (pseudo) 'holographic'. The difference is only in the background. And we saw in that 'mixed reality bedroom' video the other day that even 'pure' virtual reality will likely incorporate some elements of mixed reality even if simply in order to stop you banging your leg against your dining room table when you're walking about in vr.
4/ After Microsoft's decision to name their headset, which they intend to replace the PC with, the 'HoloLens', then it's almost a done deal that Holo is the future.

Cheers.

One question, how do you get so many inquiries? I have them listed on Afternic, Sedo, DomainNameSales, Uniregistry and I barely get 1 interested every week. Is not the quality, maybe quantity? you can check my portfolio is signature, would love to know some advices.

Holo in my opinion wont be huge, and mostly because MS picked to brand their device with holo. Others will differentiate..
Most likely will be MR imo
But that also not the issue here as right now the only growing niche out of ar vr mr holo is VR.

Cheers!

The most controversial AR/VR App released to date is PokemonGo and that's clearly an AR application, whilst VR excites the public, behind the scenes are tons of developers producing AR applications that they can bring to market a lot easier than VR or MR.

Also, no additional devices are needed to penetrate the AR market as most consumers already have smart phones, thus AR can quickly gain the most followers.

Unfortunately, it is the quality. You have maybe 2 names that I would give a second thought to, out of the entire list. I'm not saying your names won't sell, my opinion is they are unlikely to get inquiries at this early stage of VR. Your best plan would be to set $495 BINs for each of your domains and make sure all domains are pointed to their BIN pages. I'm not saying these niches won't take off but there are a number of reasons why I'm not invested in:

Augmented names
AR names
Drone names
Beacon names

This VR thread is currently at 1006 pages and counting - does anyone need any more direction than that?

Just my opinion.

Considering Zuckerberg quoted 10 years for VR to be totally mainstream, I feel you should be planning ahead for 5 years worth of renewals at a bare minimum. It's another good reason to focus on quality over quantity.
