Hi,
Based on other postings I've seen, IDN domains are tough to appraise. So I wanted to see if I could start a discussion about this. For example, is a IDN.com equal to a non-IDN.net, .org, ?
IDN Pros
-lots of folks don't speak English as a first language.
-Computer keyboards in other country's have the non-ascii symbols readily available
-MS Explorer in VISTA now resolves IDNs (20 million copies of VISTA sold last month).
-Google has used Unicode for a long time and allows searches in other languages
In short IDNs work fairly seemlessly now....
IDN Cons...
-it is an IDN.
-limits your user base to a specific language
-it is an IDN.
So I own a couple of IDNs. For sake of examples consider
måne.com (moon in Swedish/Danish)
gefährlich.com (dangerous in German)
ökotourismus.com (ecotourism in German)
In particularly, I'd be curious about what Josh's valuation system says about the value of these domains if they were the English keywords. Do you divide that value by 2 or 5 or 10 or 100 because it is IDN?
I think they have more than reg value because (1) com TLD (2) single keyword with no hyphen, (3) I own them. On the downside they only get about 10-30 type-ins a month. They are simply parked and I've not down any indexing or development.
