Has anyone used undeveloped.com to sell domains? They claim to be able to increase a domainers sales by 54%.

Another question. Why is a phone number required on the "how can we get back to you" form? This is the form after a potential buyer submits a price offer lower than the buy it now price.

Personally I would rather not require a phone number for this and would like that field to be optional.

Also since I'm not from EU, is it possible to remove the VAT thing altogether? It seems unnecessary and possibly confusing for buyers who are unfamiliar with VAT.

I would also like to see this as an option. I've just started using the platform and already had a couple of U.S. buyers somewhat confused by this.

Other than that, I like the landing pages and everything else you guys are doing. Thanks.

Just curious if your domain landing pages are generally indexed by Google and/or bing? The reason I am asking is that these types of pages have a lot of duplicate content and are hosted on the same nameservers, so they may not be search engine friendly.

Google/Bing/Yahoo/Baidu & Yandex bring in quite some traffic to our internal for sales pages. Especially when you customize the page and add content. Even though there's duplicate content (like the titles) there's enough freedom to customize the page to make it still relevant enough to get indexed for relevant end-user searches.

I'd advice the following:

1: Add unique content
2: Show your seller BIO (+SEO friendly keywords)
or
3: Show other domains from your portfolio on your lander to add richness to your pages

Of course, competing with webshops and fully developed sites for the exact match keyword will be hard but if you do the above for queries like: "Is the domain xyz.com for sale?" our pages will already rank as the first result. It varies per domain of course but this is a good buyer acquisition channel for our sellers.

We'd have to think about the meta description. Can you send me an example via the messages system of how exactly you'd like to do that for one of your domains?

Kind regards,

Reza

All non-European buyers will always see 0% VAT and when they click on learn more they'll see that they won't be charged VAT. Also for all non-European sellers the same is the case.

Having said that, even though we don't see any conversion issues in the end and very rarely a question from a buyer about this in support, we've planned to tackled this in Q1 of 2018. We're removing VAT from the landers but reverse calculating it, when applicable in the invoice. So European sellers will likely have to increases their prices if they prefer, but we'll notify you all before we implement this.

Quick update!

We've just launched a very cool new localization improvement today on all for sale pages! When you sell in USD but have for example a Chinese buyer on your for sale pages, they'll now see the exchange rate in their local currency!

We support doing this in the following currencies: AUD BGN BRL CAD CHF CNY CZK DKK GBP HKD HRK HUF IDR ILS INR JPY KRW MXN MYR NOK NZD PHP PLN RON RUB SEK SGD THB TRY ZAR EUR AUD BGN BRL CAD CHF CNY CZK DKK GBP HKD HRK HUF IDR ILS INR JPY KRW MXN MYR NOK NZD PHP PLN RON RUB SEK SGD THB TRY USD ZAR AUD BGN BRL CAD CHF CNY CZK DKK HKD HRK HUF IDR ILS INR JPY KRW MXN MYR NOK NZD PHP PLN RON RUB SEK SGD THB TRY USD ZAR EUR

This feature will help you close more sales internationally and further decrease the barrier for buyers to acquire your domain.

That sounds cool! Should be helpful for Indian buyers also, I imagine.

Sometimes we can't reach the buyer via email. When they don't pay in time, for example, we'd like to have the opportunity to directly give them a call. So it's always good to have at least two options of getting in touch with a buyer. So there's added value of asking for both.

I tried this for India but it's still displaying the price in Euros. Also, can you make this optional (Global + Domain level)? I'm not entirely sure if this is a good thing for my country.

If there’s a delay in the query we don’t pursue it. This is a failsafe we built in to avoid slowing down the load time on the page in case the API call isn’t responding fast enough.

So reload the page and try again, it should work. Also make sure you don’t have a VPN active with a European IP.

In case you’re from the same country with the same currency we obviously won’t show any conversions.

I’m not sure what you mean with the feedback about the Global + Domain level. Can you please elaborate?

Just tried again and it did not work. Refreshed (including hard refreshes) a few times but no go. Pls see the attached linked below:

I'm in India (No VPN), the currency in Euros. Not sure I understood this point though

What I meant was - Provide the lister with an option to enable this conversion on a per domain bases and globally for their account with the former obviously taking a higher priority.

Thank you for the feedback Anant! Got it. Could you please send me your IP address via the private messages or support? Our database might now be able to assign an exact location for your IP. You could try visiting the page with a proxy or VPN that's not from Europe to see the feature in action.

The option to set settings per domain is going to be launched in 2018. So that will be a possibility a bit later down the road.

Is there anyway to pay to get the undeveloped logo and link removed from the top of the landing pages?

Curious how efty.com and undevloped.com can work in tandem. I've noticed some sellers are using both platforms.

I think many people do use both Undeveloped and Efty. If you do, it is best to list one of them as Offer Only (as opposed to Buy It Now) so there is no chance of your domain name selling simultaneously both places.

The third party aspect of transfer at Undeveloped is a major advantage, making it worth the commission they charge, in my opinion.

The two services offer different options for customization, so one might prefer one over the other. It seems to me that Undeveloped is gaining buyers lately (e.g. they garnered a number of places on the top sales list for 2018).

On the other hand, Efty have really nice tools for managing your portfolio, and if you do sell there, there is not a commission (but there is a monthly or yearly charge, after the free 30 day trial).

I'm still waiting for my first sale on either (all of my sales so far have been low value ones through the Namecheap Marketplace as linked from my own website). I know sales will come along on Undeveloped and/or Efty for me.

Both Efty and Undeveloped are good and we are fortunate to have them.

Thanks for the reply. I have about 50 names on BB, and a handful on Namerific. I've sold 6 on BB and one on Namerific, but have additional names, and I wanted to bypass, Sedo, Afternic, Godaddy and have all names listed together. Efty looked like a nice option (and soon discovered many w/ Efty were connected to undeveloped) to help better streamline the process.

Hi Momentum,

Why would you like to do that? Since we provide escrow for all transactions it's better to familiarize your buyers with our brand.

In terms of buyer flow, we even thought about our brand to match the user experience. Think about that:

1: Buyer lands on a for sale page by typing a domain url in their browser
2: Then they place an offer or instantly purchase the domain via a buy-now
3: They see the url change to Undeveloped.com (which already provides context, the domain I landed on was practically undeveloped and for sale, now I get redirected to the url Undeveloped.com which connects with the action and intent of me purchasing an undeveloped/not yet developed domain).

So when we clear our landers from our brand entirely, some buyers will have trust issues later down the purchase flow. And that's something we wouldn't want to offer even if we'd get paid for it as it'll make the process of securing the payments harder.

Hi Gina,

I've seen the comparison between Undeveloped & Efty before but I think Undeveloped is more comparable with Sedo, Afternic & Uniregistry. Efty primarily started as a domain management tool and started offering landing pages as an additional service, just like Namesilo primarily was a registrar and now also offers landing pages for lead collection.

We're by design a full-service marketplace with a strong focus on leveraging organic buyer acquisition channels (parking being one of them) and making sure we're always improving conversion rates on that front.

Kind regards,
Reza

We’ve already started with it! Sometimes there might be some minor down time here and there but try loading some of your pages. You should already observe improvements.

We’re not done yet though, more implementations are planned in the coming days to make our infrastructure future proof.

Ah, you are correct... I can actually already see the difference. Thanks for the update!

I had checked a few days back and had some pages not load the first time or take a while so I was probably looking as you guys were making the updates.
