.uk .UK domain name release

NameSilo
Watch
Is anyone registering .UK domains? They opened registration for anyone and there's a bunch of great one-word domains up for grabs. I haven't heard much about this extension on this forum and wanted to know all of your take.

UK residents already owning the .CO.UK extension received first dibs of its equivalent but now it's open registration. These .UK names seems to be much more better and catchy than .co.uk, but we'll see how things go. I suppose it's still too early to say.

There's still many great domains up for grab.

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
Well .co.uk is a subdomain of .uk so makes sense for .uk to overtake in time.

It should own both the. Co.uk And uk as it operates them both I think

But yes

It explains a bit about the uk market etc and different extensions

But the

.uk

Is the best well I think so each investor may have different options etc

I wouldn't bother buying anything other than

.uk

For uk market

But

.Co.uk

Would still sell and is the most popular at the moment

Although

.uk

Could quite easily overtake it

Some endusers would want both the. Co.uk And. uk tho

Thank you for clarifying. Your point does make sense!

Thank you for clarifying. Your point does make sense!

A business won't want to build a brand on a. uk Website address if it doesn't own the. Co.uk as well

Think of it like the Facebook com Website address

Had Facebook bought both before becoming the biggest thing on the planet before building their vision on

The Facebook etc they'd probably got a cheaper price

But because they started to build it already and it was hugely popular quite quickly they probably paid more than they would have needed to initially and they effectively after building a brand on t
he Facebook etc almost had no choice but to buy

Facebook. Com

Irrespective of price etc

Why do you type like that?

Does one need to have an address in the UK?

The registrar where i just registered a domain wrote to me that

"Nominet the registry of.uk
Registrar) require us to validate your address information.

Do you have any form of ID showing your name and address?

A copy of a utility bill would suffice?"

Is this needed? Do I need to live in the UK?

More like writing everything onto separate lines.

Lol

I do every so often but mostly because as a domain name investor or buyer of website addresses etc I'm. Forever having to type

.uk

And

.co.uk

Etc and my phone keeps making the letter after the dot I'm a website address extension a capital letter that I have to keep putting in lowercase etc as my phone doesn't understand I usually only type in lowercase etc

If the capital letters button didn't exist on my phone it wouldn't bother me one bit

But basically it's easier for me to type the dots in website address extensions if type like I do without going backspace lower case add space etc

I don't think so. I recently registered around 20 new .UK domains with Goddady and I live in Florida, USA. I don't even have uks email, address or phone number. I even own some Co.uk domains as well.

surprised to see PornID dotuk available to reg after the governments proposal for porn sites to verify users are over 18.
Naturally, as a UK citizen I dont support this, but if it comes into force could be a tidy little go-to portal for users to get verified.

@wizard you mind sharing examples of what you were able to catch please ?

Yes im happy to show you only premium names im going for and getting lll.uk

Well .co.uk is a subdomain of .uk so makes sense for .uk to overtake in time.

It wont happen and if it does it will take over 10-15 years

The best thing about

.uk

Website addresses is that I'm in the uk and nothing on the radio Eg no Nominet ads stating the process etc Nothing in a UK p aper about the. uk Website address extension etc and or how it affects the. Co.uk etc on a day when many may lose their. uk Website address etc

The uk is still digitally asleep having a good old snore lol

How many people who have bought

.uk

Domains are outside the uk etc

Some of the best

.uk

Domains will be owned by domain name investors outside the uk it would appear

I own a few obviously as it's my Cctld etc and on the back of most trucks is a
. Co.uk

Website address

Very few are. uk Website addresses

A few are starting to use gtlds etc

I haven't got a clue lol and I'm not from, the uk but it's not straight forward as it doesn't accept Gmail or yahoo email as far as I am. Aware as if it did I'd have joined domainlore 2 years ago but still can't work out how to register lol
