.uk .UK domain name release

Spaceship Spaceship
Watch
Is anyone registering .UK domains? They opened registration for anyone and there's a bunch of great one-word domains up for grabs. I haven't heard much about this extension on this forum and wanted to know all of your take.

UK residents already owning the .CO.UK extension received first dibs of its equivalent but now it's open registration. These .UK names seems to be much more better and catchy than .co.uk, but we'll see how things go. I suppose it's still too early to say.

There's still many great domains up for grab.

@wizard it looks like you have been proven right - this is proving to be a tough nut to crack.

Looks like I am not going to get anything decent, so won't be getting anything.
Looking forward to seeing what names you have managed to grab....

I checked Godaddy if lucent/uk was available and it was, I back ordered it through their domain service and they registered the domain, few hours down the line, they send a mail to me that they couldn't get it because the Registrar didn't release it. Something fishy going on. What a load of bullocks! Checking Godaddy for its availability now, it's showing registered

Just check whois, an other registrar got it:

Domain name:
lucent.uk

Data validation:
Nominet was able to match the registrant's name and address against a 3rd party data source on 28-Jun-2019

Registrar:
info.at Internet GmbH [Tag = INFO-AT]
URL: http://www.info.at

GODADDY don't really have much chance looking at what they have been catching they cant keep up with the private catchers with better tech..

It is like the .EU land rush all over again. :) Nominet may actually do quite well out of this.

A client of Com Laude (brand protection registrar) has diapers.uk. June 2019 registration. Markmonitor is the registrar for diapers.com.

Something definitely doesn't sit right with me. Why was it registered after and not before?

Been a very (very!) long time since I bought domains for anything other than business purposes (so hello to anyone from back in the day!) but the .uk pulled me back more out of curiosity, so far been able to reg (with godaddy):

F1Racing/uk (which i love)
Masculine/uk (:xf.confused:)

Stuck then on sedo to see if any traffic....

Think we move into the n to s release day tomorrow....

Some

.uk

Domains have always been available if the

.Co.uk

Was purchased after the date in 2014

The

.uk

Domains that are now currently available are the ones where the

.Co.uk

Was purchased before the 2014 date and continually owned and many

.Co.uk

Website addresses will still be owned from before 2014 date until now and onwards etc but they either didn't know the

.uk

Was available despite having approx
5 years reservation period to buy the

. uk

And or not wanting to buy the

.uk

Of the

. Co.uk

They have owned for years

These are the

.uk

Domains that are now currently available to anyone as the reservation period expired a few days ago

Plus the

. uk

Website addresses That were always available because the

. Co.uk

Is popular in the uk

But the

. Co.uk

Isn't an area it's just a popular Cctld

Whereas

. uk

Is a location

Eg group of countries etc

Which is why

.uk

Will eventually become more popular than the

. Co.uk

In time

But by the time people decide they want the

.uk

Obviously it will already be sold or available at an astronomical price

Hope this helps lol

Hope this helps lol
So tell us about the .uk part again. :) Seriously though, weren't there some rule changes on registrations in .UK between 2014 and 2019. I think that some non-UK registrars still required a UK postal address for the Admin service contact.

I see the .uk ror release has drawed in some suckers to part with their cash. I apologise for being so blunt, but .uk (not .co.uk) has been a huge flop. Even the most premium keywords .in uk are going to struggle to sell, all of you registering poor to mediocre domains have almost no chance.

Take it from me, I've sold many .co.uk domains over the years. I am also a UK registrar but didn't even bother to participate.

I've sold .co.uk domains since 2014 to end users who weren't even interested in the .UK when offered to them for FREE. One even told me they only wanted the .co.uk and .uk was of no interest to them. Another end user I sold to was confused when I mentioned it, "but I thought you was selling me the.co.uk" they said. Had to clarify with them I was but I could give them this for free, they said NO.

One last thing, most companies didn't even bother to take up their premium one word .uk during the 5 years it was available to them. Surely that alone should be enough of a tell not to invest in .uk.

If it hasn't taken off after 5 years I don't see the tide turning anytime soon.

In my opinion of course, and I hope all those who have invested their money into it prove me wrong!

The five years of witholding ROR domain names stopped it growing quickly during that time. The other aspect is that businesses tend to put off expenses for as long as possible hence the spike in registrations in the last few weeks. It is, however, going to take some time to become viable for domaining. And there's always the DRS issue if it does take off.

Yes thats why co.uk will always be the better domain its just another way for nominet to cash in that's why I prefer to invest in .com these days...
