There are a lot of parking companies out there and two of the biggest are Sedo and TrafficZ. I would like to think we are in a small community where everyone gets along and there are no conflicts that can’t be solved by just talking it out. Tim Schumacher the CEO of Sedo registered TrafficZ.de and pointed it to a Sedo signup page for its own parking service, I think that crosses a few moral lines. This has got to be the most flattering thing I have seen. TrafficZ has been trying to resolve this conflict for a while and I hope it gets solved soon. I don’t like to publicly call people out but the two companies have been fighting over this for a while and I think it is a stupid conflict. Sedo should do the right thing and let’s move on. This industry is big enough for multiple companies.

Doesn't it infringe the TM

Read the hilarious comment by fluxotron in the post that Charley linked to above.

On another note, I could register any domain in the name of someone else (Thanks to that gaping hole in the registration system) - for example register "HillaryClintonPicksHerNoseInPublic.com" and register it in the name of "The Romney Campaign" and create my own little controversy, no? Any reason to believe that could have happened here? I just find it hard to believe that the CEO of Sedo could do something that stupid unless I'm missing something huge here.

I really hope you're right in your doubt Allan, that would be the only positive explanation I can think of (positive for most of the parties involved, and positive for most of us). I wouldn't bet the farm on it, but I sure hope so.

Otherwise, I can see the headlines in the mainstream media already: "Domain Industry Hits a New Low" and imaginative variations thereof.

Trained journalists would add value by coming up with much catchier headlines of course, but the underlying point in many articles would probably be the same: "We always told you domaining is just a fancy term for cybersquatting".

I hope that IS the explanation ... will be interesting to see if they make any official statements on the matter ..

Bla bla bla bla, bla bla, bla bla bla....

This is just another groin kick to the industry as a whole.
Whether it is faked or not, the general population will only see this as even the top players in our world have little to no scruples.

Long Live Domey! :tu:

If you read further down in the comments, there is supposedly a post by Tim Schumacher where he admits that a Sedo employee registered the domain 4 years ago, but that it was registered in their overall marketing plan to acquire "traffic" domains...

Yeah... I buy that... Honestly, Sedo transactions are so slow and the customer service so inept, that I wouldn't doubt it would take them 4 years and some major public outcry to realize they were squatting a competitor's TM :)

I agree 100% regardless of what the truth is if this gets into mainstream media people will assume the worse. By the time it is realized (if the theory is correct) that it is someone else registering it in his name people will no longer be interested and move on. As the last thing they heard was that Sedo typo squatted they will believe it for a long time regardless of what they are told.

Agree with you on this.

They already know it.

Sedo customer service is horrible. I've emailed them 6 times with no response.

TrafficZ.de Issue Resolved!

On behalf of Sedo, I would like to announce that the trafficz.de issue has been resolved. Sedo has agreed to transfer the domain to Ammar Kubba at TrafficZ. The name was registered by a Sedo employee nearly four years ago and was one of many “traffic” related domains Sedo used in its marketing efforts and was not registered with the intent to combat or steal traffic from any specific competitors. Sedo does not advocate trademark infringement or cybersquatting of any kind, and has been an industry leader in combating these problems.

For more information about this matter, please also refer to the DomainTools post:http://blog.domaintools.com/2007/10/trafficz-vs-sedo-parking. There, you can see both Tim Schumacher's and Amma Kubba's responses (#28 and #32, respectively).

I hope this helps to clear the air, and that we can all continue to work together to create a better domain industry.

Have a good one!

Always,
Keith

On that note, this thread is now closed.
