When looking into the reputation system I found that there are a few things which I think need slight adjustment. When newcomers who need help, and are assisted, rep you for doing so—you receive either 0 or very close to 0 rep points. I understand that the member who have gained more rep or have more posts can give more rep, yet, nevertheless, I don't think the rep of newcomers should be completely worthless.

I'm pretty sure (but correct me if I'm wrong!) that those who have just 1 rep bar, and say under 50 points, don't have the capability to give me even 1 rep point. Although it says that they did in the user CP, it's worth 0 points for your rep total.

To put it simple, I think that newcomers' rep giveaways should be worth a bit more than they are now (which is 0 for the very newest ones). I think there is too much of an imbalance in the system.

What do you guys think? :cy:

I think one thing with very new members being able to give rep is that it could lead to abuse. The current system allows members with more rep (or members who give rep less often) the ability to give more rep when they do so. Like I posted in a different thread a few days ago, rep is just for fun anyway -- trader rating is a much better indicator of how you are as a domainer.

Yes, it could lead to abuse, yet for the most part it won't. And the current system works for the most part, just i feel the new members have no say (even if they don't give rep often, since they'd be giving 0 points). And although itrader is a better indicator of a trustworthy domainer and rep is for fun, why exclude newcomers from the fun  :cy:

do people with more negative rep give harsher negative rep values?

the zero rep is a bit lacking though, especially sometimes it takes quite a lot of patience to help out the newcomers... maybe a +1 is a better fit.

Why should a new member, an "unknown" person, have more than 0 points? Right now, it's determined by how many posts that new member has, after they reach a certain level, their rep will count.

I can tell you from first-hand experience, it can be abused ... some of the Rep's that I have received by new and newer members - many that were suddenly inspired to register the very same day for the sole purpose of leaving me Rep-/- - in both the "dot Mobey" and .TV Forums™ would make a grown man blush (or perhaps puke, depending on your tolerance level), IMHO. Pretty awful stuff ... considering I was simply expressing an honest & experienced opinion! :guilty:

Nonetheless, over time I've amassed over 5,000 positive & meaningful Rep's+ from the #1 Community ... and most of the time you'll see names attached to the comments, alone with the post feedback. Those that have been here longer and have participated in the discussions and, in turn, also receive feeback are rewarded with Rep. weight ... and I think this is the way it should remain IMHO. Rather than it being considered a negative or exlusionary toward a(ny) new/newer member, I'd view it as a positive participation incentive! :music: :talk:

^ Excellent point. :yell:

Just my two sense.

Well after that superb reply, I think i concede most of my points haha. :bah:

Out of curiosity though, how many posts does a new member have to give in order to be able to reward others with say 1 rep point?

It's an unpublished amount ... but I'm sure it'll be warmly welcomed, once achieved IMHO. The #1 Community© benefits as a result! :xf.love: :talk:

Apologies for reviving this somewhat aged thread, but (I admit, perhaps a newbie question, but I searched) is there a spot where I can see an aggregated list of posts where I received reputation points?

I've had a look through my user panel, but couldn't find it in there. The only way I can do it, AFAIK, is by clicking on the "scales of justice" rep icon, which at this moment shows 421 rep points.

It would be helpful for me to know which of my contributions are most appreciated by other users.

Good question?

Cheers,
Rob
