I just noticed my Rep power at another forum is 3 points (the amount of Rep I give when I give Rep at that forum).. I don't see any way of telling that here.. is there any way to find out how much Rep I'm handing out per instance? Just curious.. I only have 233 + Rep there (only been there a couple weeks) and over 6000 here so wondering how many points I give out? Is there a default max or is that set by the forum admin?

The NP rep system is just fine the way it is.
There's not enough staff around to review every negative rep request.
Negative rep can be abused and used retaliatory by anyone that disagrees with another poster's opinion, etc. In short, if you disagree, you can easily hit the "REPLY" button and state your different point of view. On the flip side; If you agree, and i mean strongly agree, that another NPer has went above and beyond in time and effort to provide a service to either you or the community, then you should leave positive rep if you feel that it's deserved.
Now, where's the need for negative rep again? oh yeah, it's in your time and effort to rather hit the "NEGATIVE" button than taking a few minutes out of your day to actually post your statement.

I agree with that.. to me, a disagreement should be voiced in a post, not some anonymous neg.. rarely does anyone sign a neg so it's practically useless. Positives don't need to be signed as they speak for themselves IMO

The way it is now makes it broken.
If you deserve a neg rep you should get one.

If you cry and bother the admins/mods because someone gave you a neg rep then there should be infraction points handed out to you.

My visiting this site has dropped alot since the system was broken.

RJ please readd the neg rep part of the rep system or just remove the rep system altogether. Please?

OK, stupid newbie question. Where can I see my rep?

go to your user control panel, and near the bottom on the right it will say "xxx points total", which refers to your total rep points. yours will probably be somewhere between 10-100.

Maybe i'm not getting it, but why are you whining about the rep system in the first place? If someone is out of line, then the members of NP will put that person back in their place, no negative rep needed. I rather address an inappropriate, inaccurate, false post in public than hiding behind a negative rep point.
The exact same applies to your objective here. I'd much rather step up and declare your entire point of view as highly questionable :imho:. The reasons are foregoing and continuing. You're questioning the entire dynamic of the board. After all, the reason why a board like this works is, because people are not hiding but are capable of communication. If you're discouraging people from communicating and open the flood gates for negative rep, which can easily be abused, you're not doing this very well functioning community any favors.
Again, it's :imho: and i'm not scared to stand behind it, without giving you a negative rep point that may be deserved just for whining over something as unsubstantial... ;)

It's called "participation". Unless you'd rather hide instead of taking 2 minutes out of your day to address a foregoing post with a contradictory statement, then yeah, the system may be broken in your eyes.**edit end**

Your rep points are indicated by the green squares below your name on the left hand side. Or, you can also find a more detailed list inside your control panel, right below "subscribed threads".

Not coz like to get +rep like I said i don't even know where do i can check it at DP. I don't really bother about rep. But there should be some rules if you give neg's. at DP many simply read the post give neg and go away. if they don't like the post then they should post that in thread and say why.

To keep neg rep system clean they should show who gave negs and should enter a reason, a good on. If the reason is not good then negs should return back to person who gave them. maybe by mods
.

I totally agree, people should always write the reason for giving out negative reps. Negative reps does a whole lot more damage than many people think. If you've been a member here for years and you've got a lot of friends in here it's easy to get positive reps from your friends. So negative reps won't really do much damage. But when you're a new member and you post a silly newbie-related question, it's a lot easier for members to give you negative rep for the simple reason that you slightly unnerved them. So reps should definitely be moderated, esp. for deserving members.
