The official lets stop arguing about LLLL.com thread

Yes I know yet another official thread. I only wrote the word official becuase I knew most everybody would take a look. On the board there seems to be alot of arguing back and forth between LLLL.com lovers and LLLL.com haters. I for one believe that the names are not a gold mine but that is just my opinion. Conversation is great but arguing is bad :imho: Me telling someone that owns 500 LLLL.com names, that I dont think they are a good investment is not going to change anything and that person should not care. But the constant arguing about this LLLL.com and that LLLL.com seems a bit childish. For those that own the names, I wish you the very best of luck simply becuase I think that if they do turn out to be something worthwhile it will help us domainers as a whole. For those who think they are worth nothing, it is alright to say and think so, but lets keep the arguing down.
I think it will help make this a better board if we stop arguing about names, and rather, have intelligent conversations about them.

My 2 cents :)

No problem. This was not meant to be one of "those" threads. I was just tired of all these LLLL.com owners who think they are God becuase they own a few names. Thats all. Enough said.

Vurg its one thing to express an opinion. It is another to over and over again say that LLLL.com is gold if you dont own any then your the worst investor ever etc.

Yes. Some LLLL.com supporters at Namepros seems immature and hot headed at times. I was hot headed and said a lot of stupid things when I first joined Namepros as well. (I probably still do.) I respect many of these people regardless of whether I agree with them or not for their passion in expressing their views.

The reality is that there is millions of dollars being spent on these domains each year and large investments made by Namepros members. Different aspects of these names affect the value significantly and people want to know that they made the right decision with their investment, if they should spend more and also the value of what they have.

I think that Reece's idea about getting a section of the forum devoted to LLLL.com and similar domains should localise these debates and is a better solution than telling people to be quiet.

I did not see reece's suggestion. I think a separate LLLL.com forum would be AWESOME that way there, those who do not feel like these names are a great asset can simply avoid confrontation.

to me there is not much to argue even if you want to:

this is ecnomic 101, the demand and supply.
1. the supply is limited
2. the demand is going up (unless something else happens).

Just something you might want to read... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tulip_bubble

The past return on these names over the past 2 months is irrelevant now. For the average domainer you can not get these names at reg fee. I think it is important to realize that we are now talking about the future of LLLL.com not the past 2 months. Someone could be against holding LLLL.com names now and still made 300% returns from them over the past 3 months. I would not dismiss everyone who is against LLLL.com as simple "People who didn't get in and are now bitter."
i dont dismiss these people
what i write is supported by the data we have untill today and this data isnt irrelevant at all as investors use these information (sales) to invest in domains, stocks, etc ... i know we are in the early stages of LLLL.com but people say LLLL.com wont have a future are saying this without solid arguments; mine can be new but they are solid ones

Bricio-I have never seen an insult as result of arguing about these names either. However I made this thread becuase to me it is not very professional of the members of the forum to continually argue back and forth when we get absolutely no where with it.
i really understand your point and i always read what is written regarding domains, mainly when the article/thread/post is talking about a niche i own and i read not just to tell people are wrong but to get details/news i didnt get before that can be good/bad things that would help a lot my next move within this niche
i dont think people go anywhere saying it isnt a good thing; i just believe the negtive points are the same and we read them many times already
just the time to give us the correct answer about this :)

BTW, i dont remeber insults either domainer50 :)

the arguments just improve our knowledge

this is the best post in this thread.
One of my all time favorite Python sketches :)

P.S. won't say anything about the topic of this thread for obvious reasons :)

I have to disagree with this theory of investing then when you base you investing off of past price movements instead of fundamentals of the market. Since you brought up stocks I suggest you read the book "Fooled By Randomness" by Nassim Nicholas Taleb. Another book you might want to look into is "A Random Walk Down Wall Street" by Burton G. Malkiel. The first book has to do with humans seeing "patterns" when they are not really there. The second book while focusing mainly on stock investing theories is really a great book about investing in markets in general.

What I am getting at is that while LLLL.com values have gone up over the past 3 months that does not mean they will continue to go up. For me the underlying circumstances of the LLLL.com market have changed and I have gotten out because of this. I would be very wary of investing in something because "past data shows that it goes up". I am more interested in why the prices went up and to me the jump in prices reflected the buyout. Now that the names are bought out the market has changed. There is no one event that is going to make bottom prices jump like they did in the past three months. I think it is very important to realize that. There are still reasons that prices of LLLL.com names will rise but I think it is somewhat irresponsible to compare the rise over the past 3 months to the "norm". When the market was bought out most investors knew there would be a jump in resale prices. The question was more of when not if. There is no sure event to bump prices like the buyout did.

Anyway, this post was not meant to be an argument about LLLL.com but more of investing theory in general. I would be more interested in what is and going to happen instead of what did happen when investing. Looking at the past is a great way to guess at what is going to happen in the future but I think it is important to think about why the prices move the way they did instead of "the price went up so it will continue to go up".

There are two types of debate: Arguement and Reasoning.

Argument can go back and forth with nothing but opinions. This type of debate is most likely a personal feelings and it is more likely to go nowhere. And more than likely irrational emotion come into play.

Reasoning can go back and forth as well. However, the more evidence you provide with your reasons the more you stand your ground. This type of debate will end when one side can no longer reason.

LOL ... with all the LLLL threads hashed and re-hashed and those still yet to be hashed, it's a laugh and a half to see how many just love this debate ... and keep climbing back onto the soapbox in this "can't we all just get along - no hitting!" thread. Seems to have quieted down a bit (nap time?) - but I think this thread is a good contender for a long running "lazarus bump back from the dead" in the months to come ... If it keeps going long enough, I'll have to start posting excerpts from the "Dead Parrot" skit and of course the "Black Knight" and French taunter bits from the Holy Grail ... Almost done with the Argument Clinic proper, but by popular request, here's another snippet ... (the true comedians are the ones who keep coming back to this thread to debate in earnest - you know who you are, I think ... well played, well played indeed!)

Man: Aha. If I didn't pay, why are you arguing? I Got you!

Mr Vibrating: No you haven't.

Man: Yes I have. If you're arguing, I must have paid.

Mr Vibrating: Not necessarily. I could be arguing in my spare time.

Man: Oh I've had enough of this.

Mr Vibrating: No you haven't.

Man: Oh Shut up.

(Walks down the stairs. Opens door.)

Man: I want to complain.

Complainer: You want to complain! Look at these shoes. I've only had them three weeks and the heels are worn right through.

Man: No, I want to complain about...

Complainer: If you complain nothing happens, you might as well not bother.

Man: Oh!

Complainer: Oh my back hurts, it's not a very fine day and I'm sick and tired of this office.

(Slams door. walks down corridor, opens next door.)

Man: Hello, I want to... Ooooh!

Spreaders: No, no, no. Hold your head like this, then go Waaah. Try it again.

Man: uuuwwhh!!

Spreaders: Better, Better, but Waah, Waah! Put your hand there.

Man: No.

Spreaders: Now..

Man: Waaaaah!!!

Spreaders: Good, Good! That's it.

Man: Stop hitting me!!

Spreaders: What?

Man: Stop hitting me!!

Spreaders: Stop hitting you?

Man: Yes!

Spreaders: Why did you come in here then?

Man: I wanted to complain.

Spreaders: Oh no, that's next door. It's being-hit-on-the-head lessons in here.

Man: What a stupid concept.
