This being the cctld section of namepros I am sure the answers I get here will be somewhat bias:) But here is my questions:

I found several niche generic domains with rather good overture. I was debating on getting the .net or the .co.uk version.

Revenue is important in this decision with it being a solid overture number with .com I know this would do great, but obviously not many people would choose to type mygoodgenericname.net, BUT my do people type megoodgenericname.co.uk????

Thoughts? Sorry, I am just wading into the international ext world but was wondering how well generics do for type-ins.

Thanks for any help!!!!!

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
If the nature of my business is local (not global), i.e. for the UK people only, then I will prefer .co.uk name to any other extension.

Dot co.uk is a country code and is considered for local businesses. You may tweak the settings in your Google webmaster account and target it for the global audience.

That being said, .co.uk is not regarded as are .tv and .me where the related countries are unknown and the extensions are taken for video centric and personalised sites respectively.

How much time left before .co.uk transfer

How much time left before expiry is .co.uk transfer is allowed. 1 month? More? Less? By "transfer" I mean push to another Moniker user's account.

.co.uk is a great extension, i'd like to see a site where only .co.uk's are traded.

I got this in my GD renewal reminder email:

For certain ccTLDs (.am, .at, .be, .cn, .com.cn, .net.cn, .org.cn, .de, .eu, .fm, .gs, .it, .jp, .ms, .nu, .nz, .co.nz, .net.nz, .org.nz, .tc, .tk, .tw, .com.tw, .org.tw, .idv.tw, .uk, .co.uk, .me.uk, .org.uk, and .vg) you must renew no later than the 20th of the month prior to the expiration date, or your domain name will be placed on non-renewal status.

Where is the cheapest registration .CO.UK ?
Thanks :)

You could consider 2 or more websites...

research apparently shows that UK buyers will tend to choose a .uk site as being more trustworthy - so logic would suggest a .uk site would work against you for non UK customers.

if the business is worth enough, mid £xxxx is cheap! - see domainprices.co.uk for examples.

The business is global AND local.

My domain is .co.uk- Q about targeting local or global

I have a.co.uk domain and live in uk and just started building webpages for it. It's not hosted yet- it's a content/review site for certain electrical appliances.

Iv'e been doing keyword research for it but i dont know if it should be global or local search research because of the domain name.
I want to target global english speakers and not just uk so where is the best place to host it so that it is shown not only just uk.

Hope this makes sense

Unfortunately .co.uk is mainly for businesses operating in the UK, but it's not a strict rule. Anyway, for best results, try using a generic TLD like .com and .net.

is there a legal way to register .co.uk domain if you live outside of .co.uk? Is there a .uk registrar who will register domain for you on their behalf? Thanks :)

Theo is correct here. There are no restrictions when it comes to .CO.UK. For the other third level there are restrictions though (.net.uk,ltd.uk etc).

UK Droplist

I've been googling for hours without success. Is there any service which list the dropping domains prior to the dropdate?

.co.uk domain registrations are open to non-UK individuals and/or companies as well,
so there is no registrant requirements for .co.uk.

:)

.

Hmm .... I thought I got a restrictions alert at check out with Godaddy. I'll try again

I remember seeing 'Hey.co.uk' sell for £200 on eBay years back, I didn't have any money available at the time but knew it was a bargain, wish I borrowed the money now :(

I bought a couple of .co.uk domains recently. Because of the demand for services that provide cash for second hand phones, gold, silver etc I regd CashForTablets, Cash4Tablets and TabletExchange.

Any thoughts welcome.

Anthony.
