Stop Fake Buyer Requests

There has been a rise in fake buyers posting that they are looking for domains when in fact they appear to be fake buyers.

A few examples of threads:

https://www.namepros.com/threads/2-word-com.1328099/ (posted June 13th 2024) and the buyer has not logged in since.
https://www.namepros.com/threads/buying-com-domain-in-bulk.1327896/ (posted June 10th 2024) and the buyer has not logged in since.

These fake buyers are not actually buying. They post a thread and they do not respond to the buyers. They are clearly not buying domains.

It's always difficult to determine personal circumstances & intentions of NamePros members, and why they haven't logged in since then.

Your 1st example (new member with only 1 posting) is completely different from your 2nd example (trusted member by the community, with a 100% score based on 79 reviews).

Despite that, I can imagine the frustration on your side.

i believe the second guy with 79 trade reviews with 1 to 200 budget for .com domains is legit.

But the first 0 reviews 10k budget is a definite no

If it was legit then why has he not logged in since he posted the thread?

The problem is that people selling domain names post in the thread and you have buyers wasting their time.

Someone could have become ill (which I don't wish), anything could be going on. As I said, it's difficult to judge, especially in your second example of the trusted member.

Then the thread should be closed until the person is buying. It doesn't make any sense to keep a thread open for people to post on if the buyer is not able to purchase the domain names.

That's your snap conclusion. Not everyone logs in equally often. Imagine that some members, for whatever reason, only log in once every few weeks and then actually buy some domains from other members, are those members unreliable in your opinion?

Yes, I understand that you are impatient, but there has not yet been any serious disadvantage. And no NamePros rules have been violated.

Is it possible the person gets emails when people message on here? Also, do those emails contain the contents of the message? If so that could explain why there's no login activity.

I know on some forums I'm part of this is a feature.

"Yes, I understand that you are impatient, but there has not yet been any serious disadvantage".

I am not selling domain names to these buyers. But there are sellers that are looking to sell their names and their time is being wasted by these buyers.

Sellers are at a disadvantage because they may wait for a response from a buyer that isn't going to purchase the name and could lose a sale.

AFAIK, they will never see the actual content of the DM in email.

They have to click this button in their email to go to the NamePros website. The moment they do this, their 'Last seen' status will be updated.

In my view the domains wanted section is kind of a waste of time for all parties.

There are many new "buyers" with deep pockets. Sure...

There are outlandish requests for high quality domains way below market value.

On the legit buyer side, you end up getting flooded with nonsense no matter how specific you are.

I bought many domains in the past, but have not posted a WTB there in years.

What you describe is typical behavior of example #1 in the first posting. That is extremely frustrating, indeed.

I was wondering, do/did you also experience this behavior (often) with members like those mentioned in example #2?

I would agree with this.

The majority of people in Domain Buyer Requests are people that are buying names for high quality domains way below market value.

The people that are buying domains above market value or for market value are new buyers or time wasters.

I never really tried to sell domains on NamePros, just buy them.

In those cases usually I was the one having time wasted. So many people just don't pay attention to what you are asking for.

You could say something specific like - "I am looking for .COM domains starting with Boston. Only interested in priced domains."

You would get endless responses like - "I have SomeStupidDomain.xyz for sale. Make offer."

Then parties would often follow up, and get annoyed that I didn't respond.

It just got too tedious to deal with.
