I frequently see threads in the "Domains Wanted" forum where the Buyer (OP) has not been active for weeks or more, or they have not posted in the thread for weeks or even months, yet people are still posting "PM sent".

Sometimes the buyer has been logged in after someone posts "Are you still looking" or "OP not seen for weeks", but the buyer does not respond and this leaves threads open where people have no idea if the buyer is still looking or not.

Wanted threads should be about actively seeking a specific domain, and should be closed when the domain name is found or the thread is inactive.

The other problem is such threads are getting bumped to the top of the list, and when the Buyer has not logged in or not replied for weeks, then it's is a bit unfair on other buyers who are actively trying to buy a domain name.

SUGGEST:

The system auto closes the thread when after a week the Buyer has not:
  1. Posted in the thread
  2. AND Not edited any of their posts in the thread

Threads can be manually re-opened by the Buyer at any time when:
  1. The Buyer posts in the thread
  2. AND The Buyer uses the current "open/close" tick box function and re-opens

This also caters for buyers who have not logged in for a week or more.

Also a site Alert should be issued, eg "Your thread [THREAD_link] has been closed due to inactivity" etc.

The only problematic scenario I can see is when a Buyer is still wanting offers even without their having posted in the thread after a week. i.e. Buyer has no need to post or edit.

However, I think in general that within a week most "active" Buyers post "Still looking" or "Bump" etc, or they've had suggestions which do not fit their criteria so update the thread to add additional info and expand on their criteria.

In summary, this will resolve the problem of inactive/unknown Wanted threads, but not be too much of a hinderence for legitimate Buyers who are active.

What do you think?

[I realise this is scripting and cron job/etc, so wouldn't be anytime soon, but at least having it on the TODO would be nice :)]
