Some (5L) LLLLL.com statistics

Here are some stats on 5L.com domains that I have compiled. I have seen a lot of people throwing different numbers around about what is left and how fast they are going so I figured this would add a little transparency and clear some things up for those who are interested.

The data is compiled from zone file scans so all domains that do not have nameservers are considered available. This means these numbers are not exact, and the number of registered domains is actually slightly higher for each category. From tests I've run less than 1% of registered domains do not have nameservers so the margin of error is very small, and the data is more than accurate enough for this purpose. To run a full scan on 11.8 million domains would take several days and be outdated by the time it completed (I am actually working on a way to get more accurate counts instantly with one of my upcoming projects).

There have been a lot of VCVCV regged recently but also quite a few CVCVV. VCVCV passed up CVVCV to become the second most regged percentage wise, but it is still trailing CVCVV.

I made a post about this in another thread not too long ago GG, and actually about 70% of the 17576 palindromes are still available. Keep in mind that a huge percentage are CCCCC which are not pronounceable at all (eg xdzdx.com).

If you only look at VCVCV and CVCVC palindromes, which are generally quite pronounceable, it is closer to only 10% available.

normal VVVVV
V1 V2 V3 V4 V5
5 * 5 * 5 * 5 * 5 = 3125

palindrome VVVVV
V1 V2 V3 V2 V1
5 * 5 * 5 * 1 * 1 = 125

that is, for a normal VVVVV, you have 5 vowels to choose from for each of V4 and V5 (as well as for V1 V2 and V3)

but for a palindrome VVVVV, you only have 1 "choice" for each of V4 and V5 - the vowels you have already chosen for V2 and V1, respectively
5 * 5 * 5 = 125

so ... for VV palindromes there are (5 * 1) = 5
for VVV there are (5 * 5 * 1) = 25
for VVVV there are (5 * 5 * 1 * 1) = also 25

I would have loved to seen a list like that, but it's a lot of work isn't it? Any easy way to get such a list? All I know is that most of the repeating domains with patterns containing the letters a,e,o,i like eeooi, oiiie, ieeei eoeoi etc. are gone.

I did a scan of those about a month ago which you can find in the VCVCV countdown thread.

I've updated the original post with current stats. It looks like the top few patterns have slowed down, while the VVVVV have been moving fast lately.
