question Why are pronouceable 5l.com selling for so cheap?

Hi,

Why are 4l.com priced higher than pronounceable 5l.com? It's not as simple as you think and there's something messed up with these prices...

For example, the current trend that everyone wants is 4l.com and there are 26 choices for the first letter, 26 for the second, 26 for the 3rd and 26 for the 4th. So altogether, there are 26*26*26*26 = 456,976 combinations. Domainers at the moment are going crazy for 4l.com compared to anything else (besides numerics) mostly because of Chinese herd mentality... couple years ago nobody cared about 4l.com chips, only happened because a few smart investors decided to buy them all up and create a higher floor price for this category.

In the western market do you really think corporate end users care if a domain is 4l or 5l? No - they just care about getting 'their' company brand and they will pay dearly for it. For example, Gavus.com is a better fit for any end user compared to gavs.com because it's pronounceable and easy to remember. But in today's market gavs.com will be 500 times more expensive for a floor price just because domainers (falsely) have it in their head that there is a much more limited supply of 4l.com so these are the most valuable...

Regarding pronounceable 5l.com domains (lvlvl.com) combinations there are only 21*5*21*5*21 (231,525 combinations). With vlvlv.com combinations there are only 5*21*5*21*5 (55,125 combinations)...

There are actually less pronounceable 5l.com compared to 4l.com. But for some reason brandable 5l.com are priced extremely low at the moment... but maybe not for long...

Why do domainers not see this? and why is there no 'expectations' of high prices for pronounceable 5l.com?

It's either going to end with some domainer buying up large amounts of pronounceable 5l.com and setting their own floor price (just like what happened with 4l.com chips)... or maybe domainers will clue in and start to price pronounceable 5l.com at the value they should be...

I'm fairly confident this will be the next gold rush... Why do so few domainers see the value in pronounceable 5l.com?

I have been looking into variations and combination for a quite some time, and Im sure you are way off.. i

- do you have any calculations available?

Regarding total numbers of pronounceable 5l.com domains:

cvcvc.com - 21*5*21*5*21 = 231,525 combinations

vcvcv.com - 5*21*5*21*5 = 55,125 combinations

ccvcc.com - Pronounceable words starting with 2 consonants can't really start with q,x,y,z because no other consonant going with these letters. So there's 17 consonant options for the first letter.

Moving onto the second consonant - bcdfghjklmnpqrstv - the only real other consonant that can follow some of these is h and r from what i can see. so maybe 2-3 options for second consonant.

Same pattern would happen with the last 2 cc at the end.

so ccvcc.com patterns realistically only have around:
17*3*5*17*3 = 13,000 real pronounceable words

there would be the same or less for cvvcc, ccvvc, cccvv...

cvccv = 21*5*21*(2-3 options for these 4th c see post above for reasoning)*5 = 33,075 pronounceable word options

cvvcv = 21*5*5*21*5 = 55125 combinations but not all of these will be easily pronounceable

cvcvc.com = 231,525 combinations
vcvcv.com = 55,125 combinations
ccvcc.com = 13,000
cvvcc, ccvvc, cccvv = maybe 30,000 total actual pronounceable words.
cvccv = 33075
cvvcv = 55125

Total 5l pronounceable words: 417,850
total 4l.com including chips: 456,976

there's going to be a few more like vcccv, or those domains using qu or y in the domain but these wouldn't result in many pronounceable words.

It is very difficult to calculate the number of 5L pronounceables.

And I guess not all of those are brandable just because they can be pronounced , for instance, does anyone like qehho.com ?

Maybe I went a bit too far when talking about possibly 2 millions pronounceable 5 letters.

I can kinda easily find about 1 M from the best patterns. However I may have overestimated the not so great patterns (like CC at the beginning or at the end, or VCCCV etc).

As it stands now I would not claim it is over 1,5 M.

Also, there are questions regarding "brandable" vs "pronounceable". Patterns like CVVVC, VCVVV, VVVCV, VVCVV (even CVVVV, VVVVC, VVVVV), are ALL pronounceable, however I doubt there are that many great brandables.

How well they sound also dependsa a lot on pronunciation, and idk (lets call it..) "language context" (english vs spanish vs russian etc.)

yep that's why i'd say there are around 500,000 pronounceable 5l.com in total...

There's just too many 5l.com combinations that are not actually pronounceable brandable words.

Number of available 4l.com (almost same number as) pronounceable 5l.com = 4l.com are not more valuable because there is more limited supply... it's a myth!

Each additional letter reduces greatly the chance that there is existing acronym or there will be some in anticipate-able future.

for almost each LL there are hundreds of acronyms and companies. For each LLL there are tens, normally. For each LLLL... Well, many don't have a known acronym, but many do and for many you can go creative and make acronym. Now, only 1% or so of all LLLLL would have an acronym or can be expected to get one.

Add to this the capacity of human brain to remember acronyms. It works the same way as above: each additional letter reduces memorability by factor of few.

Try to remember LH, LHO, LHOD, LHODK. And try to communicate to someone else those.

Good quality, good price. Bad quality, bad price.

Have you seen the domains people consider pronounceable, many are tongue twisters.

There is only a small supply of 5L pronounceables that sound good enough to use for a product, service, etc.

Everything in domain realty world is the opposite of real world realty

The newer and bigger the house the more it is world.

Domain world the smaller the house and the longer you have it. It is worth more

New gtlds can be like a new neighborhood with poor houses, but there are still a few mansions.

I like the remark about houses and the inverse being desirable about domains. There's a magic about something/someone so big and famous it/she can be spoken of -- and people know what you mean -- using as little a name as possible. Like entertainers, who know they've made it when no one bothers using their last name anymore.
