Hi,
I was wondering...
...how can Snapnames get names before any other pre-registrations enabled registrar?

I don't think they have got anything special but a loop of attempts when it comes midnight of the registration day.

Maybe they just try it more quickly than others... but their percent of success is so high that I'm very curious about their methods.

Why, i.e., Godaddy can't get those names when you pre-reg them? Is it slower or just more stupid?

Snapnames do have a much better success rate - I guess it's because they specialise in backordering domains and have the resources to ensure they get ahead of the competition. They also have "priority partners" so if the domain was registered with one of these then Sanpnames automatically get first refusal on the name.

Snapnames have "probably" about 100 partnered registers - If someone back orders the name at snapnames it will get "PASSED" from their partners to snapnames.

The dropping & catching effect for those same domains will only take place if no orders are placed at snapnames - It then becomes a free for all.

I think quiet a few of the backordering companies operate like this.

On a slightly different note it also looks like some of these registrars have decided to keep some of the dropping names and reg them for themselve before they drop :td:

If the name is registered with godaddy and the owner decided to drop, even the father of Snapnames can't get it.

In drop names catching there is no absolute champion. Snapnames been on top of the list so far because they signed a deal to collect all the drops from network solution for their fertilizer industry.

To compete with netsol, godaddy is giving out domains for less than ICANN's wholesale price. They offset the loss by getting subsidy from Microsoft for using Windows Server in place of Linux OS.

One day good quality names will be dropped from Godaddy.

Its just business bud!!!

ok, so getting an expired domain is just a fact of partnerships. And yes, why should a registrar give away a good domain if they've got it.

Sigh... no hidden treasure in expired domains. Just investments.

I personally think there are loads of treasure in expired names - The main problems as I see it are - You have to do loads of searching and backorder alot before you end up in an auction with just one or two people in it that are not known big bidders.

I'm in 4 auctions just now with one more that is in aquiring mode which is a
(PR5 - with 3,399 incoming links and reg'd since 1999)

Just me and Harlvarez in one :td:
just 4 people in for GolfMallorca.com - Halvarez & saggydimes are there :td:
3 in another for Creamo.com - no big bidders there that I know of.
6 in another for ProBiker.com - Halverez is there too :td:

While "treasure" is a very subjective term when it comes to domains and alot of you may think these names are no good I still think it is possible to get nice names for less than $100 in drops - JMO :)

Keep Prospecting I say, one day I may hit gold !!

ps - Don't forget to check all the names you are interested in to see if they have incoming links before you decide how much you are willing to go to.
