Should there be a bump limit on sales threads?

have you ever noticed certain sales threads hanging about for months because the seller bumps once a day (nothing wrong with once a day) for weeks and weeks and weeks despite no interest shown from any others

if there is interest from others and offers etc i have no problems with threads being about for ages but if a name has no interest there should be some cut off of bumps allowed, something like 10 bumps by the seller

anyone else have comments on this

hmm well this restriction will only make the same seller open another thread selling the same name after 10 bumps. How will it solve anything?

I hear ya. I think it makes the seller look foolish to see nothing but bump after bump in their sales thread with no interest from others. You should post this in the 'suggestions' area so all staffers and mods can give their opinions.

I think ive probably got the oldest names for sale thread going since 2005 :guilty:

I dont bump it often but would hate for it to close as I update it all the time.

I agree that if its only a bump without any update, then it would be nice with a limit.

But if one bump with updates of the stats or other, then I cant see a problem with it. (and no it is not ONLY because I myself do it :red: )

yeah im not talking about updating threads, i think that is a good thing tbh

its the unchanged threads that the seller literally writes bump, no changes to pricing, updates to offers or anything else of value

a few bumps is fine but sometimes it gets ridiculous if it there isnt anything happening

This was my view on the matter as well. I see bumps as the better alternative to duplicate threads. It would be hard for us to say, "if no interest after 10 bumps you're not allowed to sell your domain here anymore."

What do you think?

I can see the problem with the question;
"what after 10 bumps?"
"does the thread get closed?"
"can one just create another thread with the same domain?"

In my opinion... no to all three.

Instead I would suggest something like a three bumping rule:

1. max 1 bump a day.

2. max 7 bump total.

3. if 7 bumps is reached, and the person wants to bump again, he must wait at least 7 days after his last bump, before he again can start bumping.

Or something like that?

Eh. That's too complicated. We would need a whole chart and a new staff member just to keep track of the bump action on the forums. 1 per day is reasonable IMO.

Elsewhere they dont allow bumps.
Only if the seller has something to add to the sale or reduce the price they can post.
Also the price reduction has to be ATLEAST 10% of the original value. Also one can only add to the sales post once per day starting 48 hours after the first post.

This way the seller is left with no option but to put up a slightly higher than expected price and come down to the actual one. The seller would take care to keep only a small window of price depreciation so as to keep the buyers interested and still be able to bump and reduce price for like 5-7 days. I think thats a practical approach.

I hope this rule if deployed only applies to domain sales not on services thread because I have services thread that I bump once a day.

I support weblord, this rules, if applied, should only be in domain sales.
