Sedo's asking me to fill W9 form

Hi All,

I have been earning lately quite well through parking and recently SEDO sent me an email stating below:

Your 2009 parking and affiliate payments from sedo.com
will soon, or have already, totaled more than $xxx.
Federal regulations require us to ask you for a Form W9
to make further payments to you without deducting backup
withholdings.

Now, I am originally from India and I did my masters here in the US and I am on OPT right now(Whatever tax cuts happen on my income when I am on OPT, I get that money back when I file for Tax returns). So, should I fill up the W9 form and send it to SEDO?

Please advise.

The W9 form is simply a way to identify you as the taxpayer/recipient. In your case, I would provide my Employer Identification Number (EIN). If you don't have one, just visit IRS.gov and request one. (must have a US based business)

I don't have a US based business. I am just a Java Developer. Should I be asking my employer for the EIN maybe?

Does your employer have anything to do with you selling domains? If not, then no.

Where do you live? India or the US? If you are making money on US soil and bringing that money into the US, then you pay US taxes regardless of where your business is on paper.

If you reside outside the US you may have to fill the W8 form instead.
