SEDO - Gives out personal info ?

I'm blown away by what I'm told is SEDO policy regarding
non-paying (deadbeat) bidders. SEDO will give the name
and address of a deadbeat bidder to the seller. I assume
so the seller can contact the bidder in what, I assume,
would be an attempt to collect (?) really?

What is the logic behind this? Is this smart? Would SEDO
be liable to personal injury damages?

This seems absurd to me and I use to work in excess liability
(umbrella) underwriting and risk management.

I would be happy with the option to ban bidders from bidding
on my names via user name.

The contract is between Seller and Buyer.
If you want to file legal proceedings you need to know against who!

The only one liable for injury damages or prosecution would be the person who raised his fists in anger, I would presume.

Sedo is just a middle man with a contract that protects itself from almost every claim: takes no risk and pockets cash. This is NOT an agreement between seller and Sedo and buyer and Sedo. Any NDA needs to be worked out before you close the deal (you can see who was the buyer on completion).

I have personally had this happen twice. The buyer does not follow through on the sale, and Sedo provides you with the contact details should you wish to pursue the matter legally.

As defaultuser said, Sedo is just a middleman providing a service.

Of course, most of the time it isn't feasible to pursue legal action, whether it because of the dollar value, the country of the buyer, etc.

What bugs me is that Sedo is supposed to terminate accounts of deadbeat users, but I have seen that this isn't always the case.

Wow .... I must be under a rock. Maybe I'm just losing my mind.
I just thought it was strange. I wanted him banned from bidding
on my names and was offered his name and address. This struck
me as odd.

I'll head into the garden and turn the dial down. :p

agree with defaultuser and RazorNF. the domain biz ain't a joke and fake bidders or sellers have deal with the consequences. sedo is definitely doing the right thing here!

I didn't say that they were doing the right thing. I said that Sedo abstains from any true responsibility when it comes to their service.

They should be more active in ensuring that their platform is clean of this kind of activity.

Be careful not to point this out to SEDO or they may threaten to "review your account" as they have just done with me. What a joke. Suggesting I should act professional when I suggested they were allowing non-paying bidders to waste every one's time.

I pointed out that SEDO will demand payment for a seller that backs out of a sale but that they wont demand payment from non-paying bidders. Then I was threatened with my account review.

Nice .....

I have 2 names/addresses from this year from non paying bidders. Was debating legal action but stuck with my time=money and chose to stop using sedo instead, still got a few listed there but really have never liked anonymous offers.

I think you have the right idea. I mean this bidder placed two bids on a "make an offer" name
then backed out. But if I cancel "the deal" I get charged a commission? LOL.

"Then I was threatened with my account review."

Keep your mouth closed, your head down, and focus on the line they draw as you move along. Anything else may raise an eyebrow from those in power, and you know what they do to people who raise their heads and ask questions.

I have one non-payer right now, transaction cancelled after 2 month of waiting. I have his name, he isn't domainer, so what I would do? Nothing.

Anyway I think Sedo could just ban non-paying buyers forever. Don't know if they do it, but guess no.

. . . you see, if SEDO bans non-payers, the cuts they get on sales will fall because fewer bidders will likely result in a lower winning bid.:hehe: Do the maths; Sedo does! Why ban those who artificially hike up the prices of the auctions? Why ban them? The quicker you learn how to do business this way, the bigger your profits

Yes but your costs go down and you become more productive if you streamline by banning those members that violate TOS and waste time and resources. Then by processing more valid sales you increase revenue.

Anyway ... I've strayed a bit off topic and this thread was moved to the break room (for a reason) so no need to pile on about SEDOn't. :o

unless you really want to ...

^^^^ Nah nah nah nah! It ain't about the buyer or the seller; who cares about them anyway! :hehe: It's about the final sale figure and the 'cut figure'!

Domainers are on their own; Nobody is working FOR them!
