Hi All! :hi:

By request, we've decided to start a thread dedicated to Sedo. We're looking for invaluable insight into what domainers want and need out of our parking program (and marketplace, of course).

Questions, comments, suggestions, tips are welcome! We're hoping this will be a great discussion about what works at Sedo and what might not (please be constructive and respectful to others in your feedback) so that everyone involved can benefit and learn from it.

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts and ideas! Happy Holidays!

Always,
Keith
(on behalf of Sedo)

I've added my domains to Sedo, all the dot com's got verified easily but all the other domain ext eg .me, .co. eu are taking a while to verify ownership. at themoment 24 hr's. Is this normal? thanks

Yes, it's normal. Some domains require human verification.

Also if a domain was listed at sedo from someone else before and he forgot to delete it from his sedo account, then it also takes longer than usual to get them relisted with your account.

im not a fan of the fact that you have to pay upwards of $50 to promote your domains in a category showcase and $30 for homepage. I have many domains at sedo and unless i am running a category or homepage feature i do not get any traffic through the market place. Is this because my registrar is godaddy and im not running the sedo mls? either way ive had better luck selling with godaddy.

What would you do?

On 4/13 I was informed I sold a fixed price domain on Sedo. I was also told the buyer's escrow payment was received by them immediately. You would think that all I have to do is push the domain to the Sedo godaddy account and wait a couple of days for my money.

Nope. Instead, I receive no further communication, but a post in the transfer center from April 15th reads, "We asked the buyer to create a GoDaddy account. As the domain is currently registered at GoDaddy we asked the buyer if he has an account there or wants to create one, so the domain can be pushed. If we receive no answer from the buyer within 2 business days, we will inform you about the next steps."

It is now April 24th, and although I have sent numerous messages to the Transfer Agent, I have received no replies. I even asked that the domain be pushed to the Sedo godaddy account so that THEY can deal with the customer whenever he gets around to finishing the purchase - after all, he has already paid, this is not my burden.

My last message to the agent today was that I plan to post this story on this forum, which I have now done. Any idea how to proceed from here? From what I read here, Sedo won't be returning the money to the buyer for any reason, so why won't they pay me? :td:

Update: Tried Live Assistance. What a joke. Automated message said my wait was about 2 minutes, that was 25 minutes ago.
" You are currently number 2 in the queue. You should be connected to an agent in about 02:21. The average amount of time a customer has to wait is 05:09. " Then it jumped from 11 seconds to go to another two minutes, then just an apology.
" You are currently number 1 in the queue. We apologize for the delay. We will assign you to an agent as soon as one is available. The average amount of time a customer has to wait is 07:56. " endlessly.... Jeez

Follow Up: Eventually got through on live chat, was given the number to call Sedo (617-499-7200). Spoke to someone rather quickly. Apparently, (and this is what I was told by the employee so I'll give them the benefit of the doubt) they were closed last Friday due to the search for the bombers up there in Cambridge, and they had a huge backlog because of it ever since. (I'm having trouble cutting them much slack, since they promised to act upon the transfer the day before that.)

In the end, I got what I wanted. I'm pushing the domain to Sedo's account, and they say they'll process the payment. I'm not happy that I wasted so much time getting this done.

I feel for you, if they have possession of the funds then they should be willing to accept the domain immediately regardless what the buyer wants to do. Then create the payment note that day they accept the domain.

You would think Sedo is big enough to have their own domain registry so that they could move domains in and out at will without relying on other registries.
That way they could take possession of a domain and hold on to it as long as it takes for a buyer to get off the pot.

The seller should never be burden with this wait time.

I sold a domain on Friday the 12th and the buyer paid for it the same day and I didn't get the funds until yesterday, 11 days later and that is considered fast

For every question asked it takes at least one day to get one response, at that rate it would take weeks to have a small conversation. :(

Does live assistance mean online or by phone? I usually get through to someone pretty quickly by phone. 617-499-7200

With all I've read about Sedo's profit margin slipping, and sluggish sales, and falling parking revenues, it makes me wonder if maybe they're cutting staff and resources? That would certainly explain the hang time and slow pay...
You would think Sedo is big enough to have their own domain registry so that they could move domains in and out at will without relying on other registries.

Would that work? If I transferred a domain to a hypothetical "Sedo" registar instead of a push to their Godaddy acct, wouldn't it have to stay in the "Sedo" registry for 60 days before moving to the purchaser's registar of choice?

A quick question; I'm currently listing my domains on Sedo, do I also have to load them in Godaddy's auction/system or will automatically be listed there via Sedo, thanks

Must I also list them in Afternics system as well or not?

I am not allowed to list my domain name, Obamo.com. This I understand is due to your rule about not allowing domain names that include the names of sitting presidents to be listed on Sedo. That's a dumb rule, but it is what it is. (Was that the case with Bush, btw? No Bushwhacker.com, etc? Seriously, I'd like to know.)

Anyway, Obamo.com does not contain Obama in it. It's in the category of short, pronounceable domain names, which is a hot area of sales now.

But I also see the following that are approved to be listed on Sedo:

Obamos.com
Obamy.com
Obamu.cn
Obamma.com
....
the list is endless.

Please justify why I cannot list Obamo.com. Or please confirm the deletion of a few hundred other names such as those I listed.

:(

Well, it's been 3 days since my first post. They accepted the domain and created a "payment note" Thursday, but still no pay. It's like watching grass grow. Years ago you would think that companies holding your money were taking advantage of short term interest earnings, but with rates near zero, I can't even give them that excuse.:td:

Anyone else having problems with Sedo's search function lately? It acts all weird, e.g. if I search for 4 character .coms added during the last 24 hours, sometimes nothing show up, which is highly unlikely.

You need to be patient with Sedo; they need to make sure that the buyer's payment clears before handing any money over to the seller. Otherwise, they wouldn't stay in business too long.

Also, if the buyer doesn't have a Sedo account, there isn't much Sedo can do until the buyer's account has been set up. After a time, Sedo will accept transfers into their registrar transfer account.

If you want a quick flip, use ebay or Flippa.

I like Sedo because it's safer than ebay, and the sales prices seem larger. I'm willing to wait for my money.

But I would recommend that Sedo simply use internal transfers to a transfer account as a default--that way, the buyer could accept the transfer as his/her leisure.

However, that is up to Sedo.

All in all, I have made good money using Sedo--despite its quirks and contradictions.
