Hi All! :hi:

By request, we've decided to start a thread dedicated to Sedo. We're looking for invaluable insight into what domainers want and need out of our parking program (and marketplace, of course).

Questions, comments, suggestions, tips are welcome! We're hoping this will be a great discussion about what works at Sedo and what might not (please be constructive and respectful to others in your feedback) so that everyone involved can benefit and learn from it.

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts and ideas! Happy Holidays!

Always,
Keith
(on behalf of Sedo)

Is sedo the best for a newbie?

Hi All :)

Newbie here looking for some help if possible.:gl:

I have some domains which I'm keen to sell to get me started. Is a sedo auction the best place to try and shift them? Or should I try my luck with end-users?

Also, with sedo do you have to park the domain first and get some interest before it goes to auction? If so, how much interest do you need?

Many thanks in advance!

Try all avenues possible to get a sale, which includes forums, sedo, afternic, end-users!. You don't have to be an expert at any of these platforms to sell your domains, if your domains are good, they'll sell themselves!.

Yes, anyone can sell good domains, but if you have just average domains, don't expect that you put them up and they will be sold in minutes. Many people have domains listed for years without an acceptable offer.

Wow, cheers for the quick reply guys!

I think some of them are quite sellable...while others maybe not so much.

Could someone please clarify that if I was going to list on Sedo, would I need to park my domain first? Is this free? Then would I need interest for it to go to auction?

Thanks for your help

Actually you can direct end users to your offer page, where they can submit offers. Sedo is a safe place for that.

You don't need to park the domain at Sedo to list it there. I have many domains listed there but parked somewhere else.

Parking is free, you only pay a commission if you sell a domain there. But if you have a domain parked there and set a fixed priced, there is a cheaper commission.

One more thing is that you have to have an offer before the domain can go to auction.

Sedo is a good place to start but I recommend trying out forums such as this and also flippa. good luck!

You first want to look at your domains and decide who the best candidate for purchase is.

Meaning if you have a name like TTYX.com, well that is more of a domainers name, someone who likes LLLL.com may give you a few dollars on a domain forum, the name is not a product or a service, so you really have no end users to email. Sure you could hope a company was using a really long three or four word .com and your name is the perfect acronym for them.

If the name is a product, check google and look on the right hand side and see who is advertising under the keyword. If you have a better name than what they are using, email them with reason why your domain makes sense. Be short with your email, concise. Long emails usually don't get read.

List everything on SEDO, because its free and does not hurt. Make sure you know they take $50 no matter what, its not 10% under $500, so you sell a name for $80 they are getting $50.

If you need help with Sedo post it here, someone will help you out.

Sedo is actually confusing to use if you don't know what you are doing and even if you do know what you're doing lol, make sure that the minimum offer that you have to send to an auction is the minimum (reserve) bid you will entertain, because I have heard of people sending nice names there and only ending up with a fraction of what they should have ;)

Foe example, if you have a domain that you want $500 minimum for, don't send it to auction if it only has $10 bid :p

I'm not slamming you or Flippa, but I think there are better avenue's available than Flippa, firstly, you have to pay $19 to list a basic auction, then there's the final commission that one has to pay as well.

For a newbie, I think it makes sense to start at a platform that is free before moving into pay to list auctions, IMO!.

Sedo is a good place to start but I recommend trying out forums such as this and also flippa. good luck!

i totally agree, as i don't use pay to list auctions either.

try to get as much info and learning that is free.

Thanks to all responses. I will try to go down the route of contacting potential end users before listing on sedo I think.

See how that goes...

Very True!! That has happened to me quite a few times but I like gambling :D But one more thing I've noticed, whenever the domains end up with a fraction of what they should receive, the buyers always submit their payment, on the other hand if the domains end up with a really nice amount,(a little above the reserve that you had in mind) the buyer never shows up lol

btw I would like to correct you, YOU CAN NEVER GET A $10 BID ON SEDO lol lol

just kidding :bah:

Just getting started with sedo..

Just want to know that:

I listed my domain on sedo for sale and pointed its name servers to sedo parking, domain shows sedo parking now.. i listed it for sale, but in My Sedo>My domains, under the price tab, it still shows "not for sale"

Anyone moves domains from sedo to any other parking due to their new fee structure. I have moved around 30% to other parking with direct contact option and looking forward to move further 50% in the coming days.

Also seller having any option to verify that bid received through SedoMLS and other than the sedo message "This buyer was referred through the SedoMLS Promotion Channel."

Also is it possible to remove domain listing from SedoMLS and keep domain on regular listing?

Thanks

Sedo may be verifying you are the owner of the domain. Sometimes it's taken a couple of hours for my names to show up for sale.

Just out of curiosity, regarding Sedo's Featured Listing service, approximately how many times is a domain name exposed on Sedo's home page during the 30 day rotating period?

Sedo Domain Sales?

I notice quite a few people mentioning their sales on Sedo and I was wondering are those of you who continuously sell on Sedo, are you promoting them being for sale on other venues and redirecting them to your Sedo parked page? Or are you just letting them sit there and waiting for a sale? Is that possible with the mass amount of names there?

Just noticed the thread dedicated to Sedo related Q's, wish there was a way to delete.

That's a good question. I see a lot of domaon actipn from SEDO, just not any on my domains. Most of my sales come from people researching whois information.

Since being in the domain industry for the last 4 years, I've finally started to gain consistancy with my monthly sales. HOW? I go after endusers...

You will not see success if you sit and wait for somebody to find you....unless you have really really really good domains.
