Hi All! :hi:

By request, we've decided to start a thread dedicated to Sedo. We're looking for invaluable insight into what domainers want and need out of our parking program (and marketplace, of course).

Questions, comments, suggestions, tips are welcome! We're hoping this will be a great discussion about what works at Sedo and what might not (please be constructive and respectful to others in your feedback) so that everyone involved can benefit and learn from it.

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts and ideas! Happy Holidays!

Always,
Keith
(on behalf of Sedo)

You'll get your money. Sold a domain on Sedo and buyer would not initiate transfer. I had to keep bothering my transfer specialist to contact the buyer. He kept lying and saying he was going to do it. Finally after complaining enough to Sedo they finally gave the buyer a deadline to initiate transfer. Since he didn't meet the deadline I pushed the domain to Sedo's account and got paid. According to whois its still in Sedo's possession.

Good to know, thanks

Question for the sedo representative here

At last email about parking earnings i see :

"Please note that parking revenues are liable for taxation."

Most companies in EU in order to declare income need to make an invoice.
Where can we find full sedo company details including vat number in order to make the invoice.
Also same rule as parking earnings apply for partnership earnings?

thank you

Oh man. I give up. Sedo finally acknowledged a problem with their management interface on Friday, but still hasn't solved it as of today. Also tried to activate the MLSPremium format to "optimize" my domains but couldn't do it as Sedo's site stated that my registrar does not support the premium format.

Really?

On another page on Sedo's site it shows GoDaddy to be a "Premium partner".

I find that MLSPremium works only for the Sedo's own advantage.
We end up paying exaggerated commissions.
We get NOTHING in return _\|/_

Problem w Sedo is that it's tooo big.
It's almost like Google in the Search biz.
Their fee structure can be described as OBSCENE.
At 15% commission they strangle the market.
The only reason equity markets are prospering is because their transaction cost is a fraction of the penny.

It's time both the EU and the US govt take a good look at Sedo's monopolistic pricing, and fines them $5 Trillion EU, and puts all their bosses behind the bar.

...it ain't gonna happen, but a big THANK YOU! for coming up with that idea.

I would not doubt, or it would not surprise me, that while Sedo manhandles the little guy, gouging them with obscene rates, they laugh about it among the "good old boy" domainers who get in all the auctions with names that defy reason. Yeah, I suspect Sedo is a racket and a select group of domainers "earn" the auctions through the "buddy" system.

There are the rare exceptions, but that is the way I feel about it. They really do not earn that percentage...

Do you have to bid on every Domain name listed at Sedo? I never saw any prices anywhere except outrageous ones.

Domains can be marked as a fixed buy-it-now price, a make offer, or make an offer with an expected sale price.

You can only bid on domains that are either make an offer or make an offer with expected sale price...If the domain is marked really high that is probably a fixed buy-it now price which means there won't be any bidding.

Real life situation:

To make a long story short, a buyer approached me about a domain. I referred him to Sedo and told him my terms. He placed an offer, I sent it to auction (as per my terms, which he knew), he won the auction; after about a week (and a reminder notice from Sedo), he paid--confirmed by Sedo.

Per Sedo's instructions, I was awaiting further transfer instructions from the buyer's registrar--none came, although the buyer insisted that he had intiated transfer.

Waiting, waiting, waiting...

Then today I get a frantic email from the buyer. He wants to cancel the sale. He was "informed" that he needed to back out of the deal.

:alien:

My question to Sedo (or anyone else who has experienced this odd situation):

Now what?

*

*

It looks like this sale will go through; I have just approved the transfer into Sedo's transfer service, although it is likely the domain will sit there for a while.

Sedo made several attempts to get the buyer moving into starting the process, but, evidently, their pleas were ignored.

I don't know why the buyer would want to cancel after having paid. I suspect he/she thought he/she had a buyer on the hook who then backed out.

I hope the buyer takes possession of the domain and tries to sell it to a real buyer--was he/she caught by the ubiquitious appraisal scam? If so, it was an expensive lesson...

This just feels like a tainted sale, and, for that reason, I won't announce it here; I suspect the buyer may be a member here, and if he/she takes possession of it, I just don't want him/her to feel embarrassed or shamed.

I just thought I would update you, and let you know that, yes, Sedo DOES take their sales contract seriously, especially when the funds are in escrow.

But the seller must be patient.

Sedo sales falling

Problem w Sedo is that it's tooo big.

But apparently their domain sales income is going down. Yes, down, despite increased commissions. Read this on DomainNameWire.

http://domainnamewire.com/2013/03/2...iness-shrinks-18-as-affiliate-business-grows/

Sedo Holding released its Annual Report yesterday (pdf), and the numbers for the domain name business are fairly dismal.

Sedo Holding has two parts: domain marketing (Sedo) and affiliate marketing (affilinet).

First, the good news: Affilinet saw its revenue grow 17.7% year-over-year.

Now, the bad news: The bad news: Sales at Sedo in 2012 droped 17.9%.

for many years, for no good reason, my parking at sedo was banned. So I changed the dns away from sedo, what is the point of pointing dns to sedo if you are not allowed to park there?

Then I will receive notice about those domains I listed at sedo, how do they verify the domain if I am not pointing dns at sedo?

Now they said they restored parking for my account, but I just don't have the time to change dns, what if they will ban your account for parking again?

Currently I have a final auction at sedo, the fee $600 is pretty high iQoS.com, I don't know if this is because I did not park my domain there. Do they still have the two different fees structure, it is cheaper fees for domains parked at sedo if the domain is sold?

I have sold domains through Sedo that might have been difficult to sell otherwise and for good prices.

Also, they offer piece of mind for higher end sales.

IMHO, they earn their commission.

It's best to set a price that includes the commission, if that is bothersome.

I'd rather sell a domain for xxx minus a commission than allow a domain to drop without getting anything.

Wouldn't you?

I have found Sedo to be honest and proactive (sometimes a bit slow, but I'm a patient person).

Sedo is quirky and doesn't allow some kinds of domains (political names, for example), but if one can get past that, it offers a nice selling platform.

;)
