Hi All! :hi:

By request, we've decided to start a thread dedicated to Sedo. We're looking for invaluable insight into what domainers want and need out of our parking program (and marketplace, of course).

Questions, comments, suggestions, tips are welcome! We're hoping this will be a great discussion about what works at Sedo and what might not (please be constructive and respectful to others in your feedback) so that everyone involved can benefit and learn from it.

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts and ideas! Happy Holidays!

Always,
Keith
(on behalf of Sedo)

As others have already mentioned, when it works it is a pretty good system (although can be slow at times).

I start to worry about the purchaser if it starts to take a long time for SEDO to receive the funds from the buyer. This indicates to me there's a chance the buyer might be "walking away" from the transaction (i.e. NOT paying). The longer it takes SEDO to receive the funds, the more likely the buyer is not paying. This recently happened to me on two different domain sales :(

Regards,
DN

It's the first time I receive an offer at Sedo and I might accept it. Problem is I haven't any experience with business at Sedo and I'd like to know a few things.

1) the only payment system I can accept is Paypal: if the buyer wants to pay via another system, as a seller, am I committed to offer all the payment systems supported by Sedo? Or does the buyer need to meet my paying requirements?

2) at the moment I have a personal account at Paypal (I'm planning to get a premium one, not now though), which means I can receive payments from balance only: how do payments work at Sedo? Will I receive the money from Sedo or the buyer? How can I ask the other party to send a payment from balance?

Thank you very much!

dont be tense,
i have used an unverified paypal with sedo :)
and that too a personal account!
you will receive the full sale amount, without any paypal fees

good luck on your sale

I tried the new free appraisal service by SEDO and one domain I listed there has a suggested price of 2000-2999. Should I make it on showcase and follow the price suggestion?
Probably it is not worth much more than your other domains. Auto appraisals often give values that are either much too high or low. They are best when averaged over a list of assorted domains. Actually, Sedo's auto appraisals are more often too low.

You never know when an end user will come along. Any decent domain could sell for $2000 - it just does not happen often.

Most people do not think the extra cost features on Sedo are worth the price.

Maybe I should wait more, watchathink? Have you tried to showcase your domains?

Paying for a SEDO Auction

I paid $39.00 to auction my site on SEDO.. Now what? I don;t see anything new on my Control Panel.. When clicking 'offers received' it still shows

There are currently no auctions running for your domain names.

What should I do?

I guess the $39 is to the domain appear in the Featured Domains.

To the domain goes to auction it needs to have a bid first.

Well what you're doing here is exposing or promoting your domain sale to thousand's on people visiting the site, by no means does this mean that by buying a rotating spot on Sedo's front page will guarantee you a sale unfortunately. You can only hope that out of the thousand's of views, that you will be able to find a buyer!. Good luck!.

Sedo is confusing

I already received this message from them

We are happy to inform you that your domain is now listed in our showcase.

Featured listings are shown on a rotating basis - our homepage is updated every 10 minutes. Your domain will therefore be visible on the homepage at regular intervals throughout the 30 day listing period.

For further information and advice about marketing your domain effectively, please see:
Overview*-*Sedo.co.uk

So i am glad i found my domain there listed so I leave it there.. But now, looking on it again, its NOT LISTED anymore.. Why so? I didnt even received a notification? I also believe that my 30 day countdown is starting. What's the matter SEDO?

No, I have not tried Showcase - I am going by what others have said.

There really are two values for a domain name. The first is what you can get quickly in a sale to other domain investors. If you just regged the domain then it is likely that domain investors would not pay much for it.

The second is what a business that wants the domain will pay. These values vary very widely - an international corporation has a lot more money than a small business. So figuring End-user values is done by including a factor of the likelyhood that a large corp will want the name - Hotels.com is a lot more in demand than HotelsPaintedGreen.com.

End users for most domains appear rarely - at this time 1% or 2% of decent (not high value) domains get end user offers in a year. With those odds you can see that Showcase would consume a lot of money before the right buyer came along.

I think they rotate every 10 minutes or so, so it's probably still there it's just being rotated with the other featured listings, your domain offer page views will increase daily which will confirm that it is listed just not 24/7.

I have a question about 60 days rule and Sedo.
Let's imagine the situation:
- 2 days ago I've won a domain name in expired domains auction at Snapnames. The registrar is Moniker, Dotster or whatever...
- today I've sold a domain at Sedo
- tomorrow I will push it to Sedo's Moniker or Dotster account.

Whats next? The buyer would need to create an account at Moniker or Dotster to receive the name, or Sedo (because it's Sedo) could transfer the name out from the current registrar, not waiting for 60 days?

Thanks, Nick

I don't think they show them all on that list, I think they have more than that one page as I remember a while ago I featured one and it didn't show anywhere and then hours later it was there, I think if there are more than that one page they should link to them all like page 2, 3, 4 etc... keep an eye on your domain offer page views and if you don't see that going up daily then maybe you are not listed and I would contact them, I just emailed them to ask if there are more listings than that one page and if there are why don't they link to them, should have an answer by tomorrow I would think.

I am confused. Hopefully someone from Sedo reads this thread and can respond. I have used Sedo service for a while and have been very happy so far.

I have had previous in the $200ish range and have always paid them 10%. I just received an offer for $200 on a domain and Sedo says there is a $50 fee!!??? I would accept the offer if it wasn't for this very inappropriate fee. I checked on their price list and see this:

Listing your domain for sale with Sedo is easy to do and completely free of charge. Why not see what type of offers your domains would fetch? You only pay a 10% fee to cover the secure transfer and escrow if the domain is sold at Sedo

Below that is different fees for parked, nonparked, non fixed, category 1,2,3 and so on.

No mention that I can see for a minimum $50 fee for parked at Sedo and offer received except the 10%

Sedo, could you clear up my confusion? Thanks in advance

...always paid them 10% ...Sedo says there is a $50 fee!
Sedo previously would waive the $50 minimum fee for sellers if the domain was parked using Sedo's parking service. They changed this back in October 2009. An announcement was emailed at the end of September 2009 to let Sedo members know that the requirements for waiving the $50 minimum commission had changed.

Beginning October 21, 2009, Sedo's new policy (they call it a promotion) for waiving the $50 minimum commission involves both parking domains with Sedo AND listing them at a fixed price.

As one would expect, most Sedo users do not like the change.

Thanks Paxton and repped :).

I just don't see where it says parked and offer received has a minimum $50 fee. I see non-parked and non-fixed price has a $50 fee. besides that I just see and I quote:

"Listing your domain for sale with Sedo is easy to do and completely free of charge. Why not see what type of offers your domains would fetch? You only pay a 10% fee to cover the secure transfer and escrow if the domain is sold at Sedo"

Below that I see:

Listing a domain for sale - Free

Buying/Selling a domain on Sedo

Parked and Fixed Priced Domains with a category ICategory I Top Level Domains - Sales price, no add. fees - 10% of sales price, no min. fee

Non-Parked and Non-Fixed Priced Domains with a category ICategory I Top Level Domains - Sales price, no add. fees - 10% of sales price, min. $50

I'm not sure if I fall in the last category but that should really read "Non-Parked or Non-Fixed Priced Domains"

Not happy at all with the SEDO service if the fee is $50 minimum on names parked with them (for a long time) and offer received. If this is indeed the case, I hope the buyer contacts me with my whois info so I can use another service. Hopefully this isn't the case and someone responds from Sedo.
