Unstoppable Domains โ€” Expired Auctions

Hi All! :hi:

By request, we've decided to start a thread dedicated to Sedo. We're looking for invaluable insight into what domainers want and need out of our parking program (and marketplace, of course).

Questions, comments, suggestions, tips are welcome! We're hoping this will be a great discussion about what works at Sedo and what might not (please be constructive and respectful to others in your feedback) so that everyone involved can benefit and learn from it.

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts and ideas! Happy Holidays!

Always,
Keith
(on behalf of Sedo)

Sold another domain this year on sedo, and again, I gave the auth code a week ago and no one initiated the transfer, lol.... Last time sedo cancelled the transaction and created another sale, took a month to clear a payment in 2026 wtf... how come people still buy domains there when it takes 10 minutes to 48h on other markeplaces to complete everything..

I had a sedo sale a few days ago and it went perfectly. I received the sold email. Then payment less than 12 hours later. Perhaps it is your buyer that is delaying things by not initiating the transfer.

So far, all of my Sedo sales have taken over 3 weeks to pay out, whereas only about 1% of my Afternic and Atom sales take that long. It seems I may have had unusually slow transactions on Sedo.

I notice that your account it's 3 months old.... I'm curious how many sales could you had at sedo in these months? Also, 1% of afternic and atom in 3 months os sales?

I used to be active here under another account, I've sold about 1,000 domains to other investors and move on to other things, I've sold many names to end-users between 2014 and 2020.

Sedo again running their great domains auction after 2 months gap!

Most of the time they list a bunch of 2 month old craps (Probably the employees domains?), while rejected names that were better than those craps though not the best.

Anyways, its good to see them doing something and show that they are active.

Is anyone well versed with Sedo settings?

I see a listing that looks like below (deduce dot co is the domain). It shows a buy now price with a "enter your Best Offer" price below it.

But I can't figure out how to get my domain to show like this. It either shows solely BIN. Or, if I switch to make offer, it shows Make Offer as the primary option with "Seller's Asking Price" below.

Even when I set both a BIN and MO min, I can't get it to show like the screenshot. How do I do it? Where and what are the proper settings?

for reference their name shows "buy now" in the search results - but when you click it allows you to enter "your Best Offer"

https://sedo.com/member/my-account/general-settings -> Enable bids on Buy Now domains.
The setting is for all domains, there is no per-domain setting.

Thanks.

It's a better setting than "make offer" because make offer loses all the Sedo MLS partners (they only show BIN names). That setting you showed at least still gets that distribution.

Unfortunately I just wanted to test this concept as I'm not a fan of de-anchoring the BIN with "best offer" alongside. I wonder if it is OK to create a second Sedo acct so I have two folios, one as BIN only, and the other with that toggle on. Is Sedo ok with that TOS wise?

Hi there is some adjustment possible, you can set a % as min offer or only apply make offer to a given price band. It's located at MyAccount >Settings:

Always,

Hi Keith,

Recently there has been a sale through the MLS that payment has not been made.

Normally the payment is made automatically after the name being transferred and the status being updated to Credit Note Created. Then, the payment will arrive in the next business day.

However, this time the status is closed without actual payment.

An email was sent but I am unsure whether it was the right one to reach. Can you advise please?

Thanks.

@WhySleepAlone I don't think you will get a reply to this here. You should submit a message in the transfer center or possibly call them. I had this happen one time in the past and it was quickly rectified.

Many thanks. Didn't realize there was a drop-down box where I could message a closed transfer.

Still have a few ongoing transfers - hopefully no more glitches.

Be careful when using the comment field in negotiations on Sedo.

A bug causes a slurred, comic-speak-like curse to appear instead of the character "ยด". I only noticed it after I had already sent my counter-offer with a comment. It can't be edited after that.

How much does something like this diminish a buyer's trust in marketplace and seller? (The buyer is a new Sedo customer.)

It's a real shame about the minimum bid. The lower it is, the more the buyer's willingness to negotiate is limited. The higher it is, the more domains become overvalued.

During a routine Account Maintenance Check, we noticed that you have one or more domains listed with Sedo that are not currently registered. Since the domain(s) in question are not active and therefore cannot be traded or parked through Sedo, we've removed them from your Sedo account.

Thanks. I still own the removed domain though.

Of course I could easily re-add it, but I hope I find some time to remove everything myself (some ccTLDs need to find a new home).

Please note that the maintenance check is an automated check by our system, which tries to reach the WHOIS of the domain to see if the domain is still listed in the account of the rightful owner. If the WHOIS is not reachable at this moment for some reason, the domain gets deleted automatically, which, unfortunately, we can't stop.

Was it .org? That registry has turned off whois recently, in favour of rdap. Hopefully sedo has updated their scripts, because more registries will follow.

[edit] sorry, fake news, it seems .org whois is working again, but I swear that last week I was getting something like "whois is not supported by this TLD".

Perhaps it's because we Germans haven't forgiven Brexit yet. (I assume you're referring to dot .uk.)

Because, secretly, we're somehow in love with the British. I don't know why: Shakespeare, Churchill, Orwell (1984 = 2026?), the Beatles, the Stones and Punk, Kate Moss, the Premier League? Food and weather certainly aren't reasons for unrequited love, and we've always contributed a German touch to the Royal Family through marriage.

Anyway, I was recently shocked when transferring a .co.uk domain to a different registrar that no AuthCode or cumbersome changes were required at Nominet, only the new provider's [provider's] name. This contradicts the German misconception that the greater the complexity of a measure and the higher the number of process steps, the greater the security and accuracy must be.

Sorry for going off-topic, if indeed it is.
