By request, we've decided to start a thread dedicated to Sedo. We're looking for invaluable insight into what domainers want and need out of our parking program (and marketplace, of course).

Questions, comments, suggestions, tips are welcome! We're hoping this will be a great discussion about what works at Sedo and what might not (please be constructive and respectful to others in your feedback) so that everyone involved can benefit and learn from it.

You want to buy sedo with 1 million? Good luck. Dan was 75 millions and I think sedo will be at least double that, probably closer to 200 millions. So around 200k each, at 1k members.

But what do you get when you buy Sedo? A bunch of domain listings and distribution agreements, and an aging platform.

Without the parking revenue that has evaporated, Sedo may not be in profit at all. So who is the ideal buyer?

I will list a few, other can add more. I'm not even talking about parking revenue. First, the brand. there are lot of CEO's and business owners who bought 20 years ago through sedo and are using only sedo for their acquisitions, like a lot of european companies owners (as an example, Python boss wanted to use sedo, an it company fron Nederlands with offices all over the word and others) Second, the distribution network could be a big asset for spaceship or dynadot. Also, exactly like network solutions, they have listings of premium domains who are exclusive to sedo. Why do you think that dnjournal it's full of big sedo sales? A big plus it's european cctlds sales, something that even afternic/godaddy could not get close to them even today, just check who is selling 90% of .de, .nl, .es, .it and others. So, you get old platform, replace it with spaceship software, keep all the distribution networks, listings and brand and you have a huge new competitor to godaddy/aftermic.

My negative experience with selling a domain on the SEDO platform. Honestly, I am still shocked by what is happening, by how absurd the platform's requirements are, and by the fact that all these requirements suddenly appeared only after the domain was sold, not before I spent a lot of time adding my 22,000+ 4L.com domains to their platform and confirming ownership of all these domains through TXT records by changing the DNS:

Today I sold a domain on @Sedo for $3,000. Only after the sale, Sedo triggered "seller verification" through Adyen at https://t.co/dlcjfdpq8T.

The verification form asks for my legal first and last name exactly as on my ID, date of birth, country of residence, email, phone… pic.twitter.com/BPs6cdQvs9

Since making this change to Adyen as their payment processor, Sedo have not notified sellers with domains listed at Sedo.

Surely Sedo should email all sellers asking them to do KYC with Adyen to continue listing on Sedo? And tell them payments are no longer processed by Sedo?

Strangely, Sedo insist they are not selling the domains, just matching buyer and seller - the contract is between buyer and seller. So why not let buyer and seller choose their payment processor?

It seems Adyen is a licensed bank now, but that does not really solve the problem of not telling people until after a sale that KYC will be forced on them.

If you set paypal as payout, I don't think it will go through adyen. Also, if I'm not making a mistake, I could be wrong, if you set revolut as payout also will bypass adyen, because revolut it's doing their own kyc. Adyen is well known, the issue is that sedo should let everybody know that adyen will require a kyc.

Impossible to unlink from Dynadot marketplace too.
Sedo support can not help.
They are selling my own domain to me.
This listing is not valid, delete ASAP

Also, if I'm not making a mistake, I could be wrong, if you set revolut as payout also will bypass adyen, because revolut it's doing their own kyc. Adyen is well known, the issue is that sedo should let everybody know that adyen will require a kyc.

Did you try to change the payout to paypal and tell them that you have a new payout setting and thet still required adyen kyc? I know some of us had the same issue and it was fixed this way. They will not tell you straight what other options you have.

Payouts for sold domains are not available through PayPal, only to a bank account. At the same time, for the money to be credited to the bank account, you need to provide the recipient's first and last name. If they are entered incorrectly, the bank will not credit the funds.

This is the funniest part of this situation, because they require me to pass verification and provide a copy of my passport to some unclear service to make sure that it is really me. At the same time, this check can easily be done without any documents, because SEPA VoP (Verification of Payee and has been mandatory for all EU banks since October 9, 2025), allows checking the first and last name of the account recipient and making the payment only if they match. Therefore, it is obvious that if the name John Smith is listed in my SEDO account, and the bank details where I want to receive the money also show John Smith, and if my bank in EU confirms upon request that these bank details really belong to John Smith, then this should be enough.

Banks and payment systems are responsible with their license for following all rules and regulations. If I was able to open a bank account in the EU in my own name, then I can also pass verification at SEDO. I simply will not do it as a matter of principle, because I do not want to show my personal documents to unclear services that may use them in unclear ways.

This makes me think that the real goal of all this is not to make sure that I will actually receive the money, but, for some reason, to collect the seller's personal documents.

That's strange, I've used paypal at sedo for tens of domain sales, last one was this month. Probably you can't change the payout setting during a transaction or when importing leads, but even now, paypal is my payout choice.

This is from sedo payout's section:

You can receive payments per wire transfer and PayPal. PayPal accounts may be used to receive amounts up to $20,000. Wire transfer payments may be used for any amount.

What else do I need to consider?​

PayPal payout is not possible to all countries: please contact PayPal to find out if this is possible for your country. Some banks charge a nominal fee to receive a wire. Please check with your bank for more information.

Looks like they don't do payouts through paypal for all countries, so this could be the reason.

Under GDPR you can only collect information that you actually need. So since they will verify you via SEPA, they have no justification for collecting other/more information for verification. You are right to refuse to comply.

I had a situation where I agreed to sell a service for a low xxx amount, provided it, then unexpectedly received a lengthy and intrusive supplier/contractor form from the parent company to fill in. I told them they had no justification for collecting that info under GDPR... they backed off and just paid without further discussion.
