Well, probably you are curious what's the name of this domain.
This is it:
RateOf.com
Crappy, isn't it?
But it has 161,000,000 Google indexed pages.
and that is why according to DomainTops.com it has the value of $330,476 and is SIX TIMES more expensive than Poker.com ($51,780) :hehe:
On the other hand LeapFish.com says that is is worth $76.

I would like to start the discussion about the possibility of creating an ideal appraisal system (= perfect appraisal algorithm). Is it possble to create an automatic domain appraiser that would accurately appraise the value of every domain? Or we will still need to pay $XX-$XXX for manual appraisal?
What are your thoughts?

And to not to be completely off-topic - please appraise this domain :)

I'm not an appraiser and I am just as interested in learning what the experienced appraisers on this site have to say about your thread.

Since you used poker .com as a benchmark which we all know is in the stratosphere of domain name values, I did some checking. It has 208 pages linking to it plus it has an alexa page rank of 49,524. It has archive. org pages going back to December 06, 1998. I didn't check any bookmark sites but I'm guessing that factors in, too. Of course, only the seller could reveal how much money the site makes in revenue.

On the other hand, rateof .com has no google links, no archive .org data, and no alexa data. Only the domain owner could reveal how much money the site makes in revenue, which I'm guessing isn't much because it's not being monetized in any way.

It's an apples to oranges comparison for a new registration against a top site, but we're all competing in the same sandbox for buyers so it's a valid comparison.

So, appraisers, want to raise the curtain a little and let us know how you come up with your numbers?

Actually I don't think the domain is that bad.

Don't know what it's worth, but I would easily give you round $1000 if I were a financial company offering mortgage rates, financial tools & that kind of stuff on my site.

Could be worth alot more.

Appraisal sites, don't work, and i doubt they ever will.

They are useless and give people the totally wrong idea.

Also, moved.

computers don't have enough AI to do appraisals with software. Not only does it take knowledge of language and trends, grammer, and context, but experience in the industry knowing what has word and what hasn't.

We can't even get experienced people to appraise accurately. I've been doing this for a long time and I still see names I thought had no value selling for big $$ because I didn't know some obscure industry or buzzword. I've seen generic ones I thought very valuable going for almost nothing and hitting the drop cycles. Look at the appraisal forums and see the huge discrepancies.

On a scale of 1 to 10, I give domain appraisals by automated systems a 1 and most human ones a 3 to 5. I've never paid for an appraisal and probably never would. I think others should take the same advice. Take free opinion appraisals all you like, but take them with a grain....make that a whole shaker...of salt.

I think appraisal algos that actually incorporate real time sales data from auctions and other marketplaces would give an more accurate appraisal. That is the only way an automatic appraisal will have any type of accuracy.

Domain Appraisals

Hi Name Pro Users,
What do you feel are good criteria in looking for domain names?
When I look for domain names I generally try to look for short names that make sense both phonetically and logically. What do you use in choosing? Some domain name authorities are promoting long names, sentence names, etc.

I've looked at what has sold on DN Journal to guide my choices. I've used some of the domain estimating tools like Nameboy and Preferred Domains and found the difference to be really confusing. Nameboy will say it is worth thousands and Preferred domain will say its worth nothing. Has anyone found a reliable domain estimating site?
I'd appreciate your thoughts on the following domain names and an estimate of value.
budgetdisney.com
cluttertamer.com
dotfather.com
galacticgear.com
nastyplayboy.com
swordsupply.com
trophyblonde.com
True value.info
Helpnow.info
MedicalAuditor.com
Fortunenow.info
HotGamblingPicks.com
MegaMarketer.com
TermiteTroubles.com
RadioFaith.com
SacredSunday.com

Am I looking for the right type of names? Some have told me that I should be looking for keyword rich names. Usually since most of my domain names are 2 words.

For instance with budgetdisney, disney is one of the most frequently searched words, budget is also highly searched. However if you put in both as the keyword "budget disney" Wordtracker will show no searches. What is the correct way to look for keywords that would be important in helping you judge which domains are the ones to choose?

Any other suggestions, resources, assistance you can give to a relative newbie at this will be most appreciated. Thanks again.

All the best,
Ted Sudol
