Just tried to appraise a domain using Epik appraisal. The page has been taken down which is a shame. It always gave a $ value similar to Esibot and other useful information about a domain.

Valuate is good for a ball park $ value but not other information (plus you have pay and Epik was free). Any other free sites that are worth hitting on for appraisal info ?

Thanks in advance.

Best,
Paul

Epik, valuate use the same appraisal method as estibot...there values will always match...
instica- I would never go for their appraisal as I don't see anything great and big in their valuation method...
Siteprice.org- I will consider it better than instica.

You can try sedo appraisal as well..

#1 Rule of domaining: Never use automated appraisals, they are worth nothing

#2 Rule of domaining. Don't use manual appraisals, they aren't much better.

very true โ˜บ...research the names yourself and make your own decision on what you think its worth..

Whilst I agree with rules #1 and #2 in part, it's not always true. Appraisal tools CAN be useful as rough indicators, you have to apply some logic and common sense to tell you if a domain has value or not.

Human appraisals can also provide some insight, not to indicate a true value but to use as a rough figure based on a much broader view of opinions which you can use as a guide in your research. As useful as some automatic appraisal tools are, this is something they cannot offer.

That said human opinions are subject to error and I would only really advise new domainers to consider using them as a guide because once you grow in confidence and knowledge, you'll be able to price domains appropriately by yourself.

Oh and never, EVER pay for an appraisal, even from the most well known sites. They are worthless! Why? Because you PAID for the appraisal, they're not going to tell you your domain is completely worthless because they want you to come back. Of course there might be exceptions here, but I've yet to see or hear of them!

There is one caveat to rule #1 and #2:

Paid appraisals are ok. Providing I'm the one getting paid.

Not true as far as epik/estibot appraisals always matching, I've found quite a few of my domains appraised lower with Epik than it did with estibot. They usually match but not all the time. I don't believe Epik's Monthly search volume stats are accurate.

For the ridiculously low price of $28.28, I do appraisals.
Tell me what you need to get and I will make sure it is spot on!

Actually. Non monetary appraisals by humans can be worthwhile - is the name brandable? does it make sense? is it positive? convey the right meaning.... or pointing out totally DOA names.

If the caveat counts as Rule #3.

Rule #4 Appraisals are ok for discussion the name's characteristics other than value :)

New rule #5.....ignore all previous rules and any more rules.

The best appraisal is the one in which a buyer pays me money for my domain.

That is the most solid appraisal that you can get.

Thanks Azwanasban. I will check it out right now. A human appraisal for free sounds like the bees knees. I assume there is a limit to how many they will do ? There is no catch I assume ?

in Flippa, you can appraise one domain per week..but I sometimes doubt if at all its worth..sometimes for crappy domain the appraiser will say $10,000 but the experienced seller will just say $10..that depends because most of the appraisers in Flippa can't determine the value of a domain. No one can btw.

The domain is of value what the right buyer is willing to pay for it.

Plus what the seller is willing to accept. Agreement = Domain value ;)
