I was wondering what the experts on this forum felt the best online appraisal sources were. The "Art to Domain Appraisal" is so convoluted and biased, I wondered what you folks used to help you appraise?

What appraisal sources do you feel are good to use, if any?

godaddy.com
afternic.com
sedo.com
premiumdomain.com
namepros.com :)
leapfish.com
swiftappraisal.com
webmasterworld.com
moniker.com

other(s).....

Thanks

Don't bother. The only value of a domain is what someone is willing to pay for it. The "rough" estimates you'll receive in here are from some seasoned domainers, they'll keep you straight. Appraisal services, in my experience, tend to over-inflate the price - totally useless.

www.domaintops.com - 4x more accurate than Leapfish and 120% more helpful than SwiftAppraisal.

Sure, i'll appraise your domains.

godaddy.com<---Go where?
afternic.com<---Nic who? Did you mean Nickelodion? TM issue there.
sedo.com<---garbage
premiumdomain.com<---too long, regfee
namepros.com<---resellers only
leapfish.com<---fish don't leap, garbage
swiftappraisal.com<---too long, regfee
webmasterworld.com<---reminds me of he-man and the masters of the universe.
moniker.com<---catchy, the only good one here, at least 50 million.

He's biased - its his site - BUT he's right. MUCH more accurate than other free sites, and in many cases just as accurate as anything you'd pay for. IMH(unbiased)O.

Review & Advice
We're still adding advice for domains rated this high or higher, but this domain has lots of potential in development, especially if you want its value to double or triple.

Appraise Another

Well, I think lets be fair for DomainTops

Lets review some recent sales from NameBio.com (my favoritest site in the world, and yes I am biased!) I picked these at random, but all sales are within the last few days and are from Sedo (as from auction formats)

Actual Sales:

URST.com - $324
TheFootballForum.com - $450
354.net - $726
PJJ.com -$4405
Keywords.de - $4921

DomainTops Results:

URST.com - $26
TheFootballForum.com - $138
354.net - $390
PJJ.com -$454
Keywords.de - $97,607

Well, the first issue is the LLL.com that was appraised for 454, even a newbie domainer can tell you that the minimum wholesale price on an LLL.com is 3.5-4k. Also, keywords.de - thats quite an overshot. I dont think its considering the fact that Keywords is english and .de is the german ccTLD. Clearly the algorythm needs some work, based on real sales data.

^^ For the undershots in that list, it's possible that the domains made some $$ or had some traffic that you don't know of, which the algorithm can't consider then.

Yeah, okay, it ain't perfect - but I'm workin' on it... it's kind of tough for a one-man job. I mean, really, domains will sell for as much as the buyer is willing to pay for them; so comparing domains that have been sold with a domain appraisal from DomainTops to test its accuracy is just as much a fallacy as using SwiftAppraisal, IMHO.

Yes, I'm biased, but that also drives me to make the algorithm more accurate. And at least it doesn't overshoot *too* often... it takes a lot to program a brain.

Finally....

...some great insight folks. This really helps me now. Not sure were showbiz2 was going...but interesting to see showbiz2's appraisals of established domains.

Showbiz was going for the cheap joke......my thought is that you can't program human will, so name appraisals will always be off in most cases because it really is a matter of what one is willing to pay.

When it comes to appraisals here...I really wish people would respond more. If I take the time to open a thread asking for appraisals, then I put in my thoughts. No reason not to, and the excuse that people get upset over low appraisals is stupid. Who cares what is thought? It's the internet ffs. And a few more honest answers in a thread will eventually sink in that names are either good or bad and it will help people to stop registering crap.

So if you want opinions, I will happily give them. (The Wife assures me mine are wrong)

Established domains?

MSN.com<---3 letter mumbojumbo. reg fee
YAHOO.com<---Made up word, got lucky, $50.34
Amazon.com<---It's a location name, those always do well-bazillion dollars.

got others?

Yeah, so feel free to appraise mine. No offense taken, and it gives me an opportunity to get a reality check and possibly toss back a bad idea, or move forward on a good one.

0kay showbiz2 here goes...

...alright, I'll take a chance here. I played the appraisal game at NameBios, used and learned from all the other sites mentioned in this thread and thought I'd play the NameBios game here with some domains I own to see what kind of replies I get and at the same time test my skills so far to date:

putyourpctowork.info <--75.00 (gets lots of hits)
onessite.com <--125.00 (same as above, shorter name)
freeweddingcatalogs.net<--15.00 (??)
freeusaad.com <--280.00 (free ad thing)
superhotjob.com <--50.00 (job thing, I don't know)
paylessinn.com <--25.00 (shouldn't have bought it)
1healthmag.com <--250.00 (lots of hits for some reason)
discountbenefit.com <--500.00 (someone told me so)
bakingrecipe.net <--157.00 (just because)
freesample.ws <--6,516.00 (I wish, free sample thing big on search engines)
irsincome.com <--230.00 (is this a trademark thing, don't know)
womentennis.net <--397.00 (because godaddy said)
3vs.net <-- 270.00 (nll.net, lln.net, 3 characters, heck I don't know)
ohiolotto.net <--3,666.00 (lotto thing, is this a trademark thing too)
GROCERY.ORG.UK <--1000.00 ( don't even know why I got it, grocery, a big search word on engines, org.uk scares me)

Okay there it is...lessons learned just now. When you own them, your biased :)

What's my score?

Good day!

It was by far not a personal attack, it just gets to show that there are a ton of elements to be considered before anyone can even make a halfway accurate appraisal. Certainly, in the end it depends on the buyer and his/her ability and willingness to buy. However, at the same time, sellers are looking at appraisals (threads or tools), recent sales of similar domains, positioning and MANY other elements, which give them a sense of how much to ask.
You can program across the board, use all algorithms in the world, even go data mining to recent sales and you still won't be able to program the human element into it. Perception, positioning, brand ability and ease of use are user driven and impossible to judge with software.

discountbenefit.com <--Showbiz says "I think this is a good one. High $xxx right now."
3vs.net <-- Showbiz says "It's a 3 character name. People go apeshi7 over these things even if they are garbage. I would put it up for a quick sale and get rid of it."

The rest are ok if you are looking for parking revenue over the long term, aside from that they are only worth anything to another reseller, not an end user.****

****The biz opinion.

Ok, since no one will say anything in the other thread:
checkperson.com
loaningbank.com
onlinecheckcard.com
bankloaneasy.com

If you appraise above, you can appraise this one two:

whineytard.com
valident.net

whineytard.com

checkperson.com
bankloaneasy.com <--both maybe mid $XXX

onlinecheckcard.com <--And this one's cool, not sure on resale value but I could see some potential.

whineytard.com <-- teen thing maybe, my daughter has a teen forum that kind of relates to this one.

hope this helps :)
