Let's say you come across a .TV name listed on a marketplace (not the boards, where you could easily contact the seller). How do you know if it's one of those legacy premiums or not?

Do those premium renewal fees extend for the life of the domain, or are they a one-time fee?

I'm able to see the prices for premium names that are available, but if a name is dropping or currently owned by someone, I'm not sure how to check if there are hidden fees.

You wouldn't want to pay $100 for a name in auction and then find out there's an additional $700 on top of that.

Thanks in advance.

You cannot, you need the owner to be honest. If a name is dropping its a one time fee. But if its an old premium name then you have to keep paying that premium renewal.

If it has been registered March 18 2010 or later is for sure a regular renewal fee.
If it's previous you can search in the forum if there is something about it.
One time there was Ahead.tv but now this is the only way.

Thanks for the replies. One of them dates back to 2007. It expired in November. I guess I'd have no way of knowing if it's a premium or not. If I called a Registrar, would they have access to that info?

If it expired and you can reg it then it's one time premium and non premium renewal

What if it's not a handreg, but in an auction as an expired name?

If the domain is regged at ENOM there is a higher chance the renewal is premium (not automatically). I believe domains registered elsewhere are by default regular renewal.

you can ask me if the name is premium or not.
