So far, in the 2019 Namescon auction, there are a total of 335 domains currently in the auction list.

Of those, there are only 6 8 new gTLD domains.

The wording is at best confusing. It (now) says may be unable to auction... (whatever that means) and also says it applies to those designated premium by registry and then goes on to talk about the $75. So hypothetically an .icu designated as $16 premium, even though renewal is standard at less than $10, would be ineligible, or may be, as I read it. Or a club at $20 premium renewal is ineligible even though all .io that carry about $50 renewal are fine.

I also am amazed they ask people to submit on a website that is not https.

Does someone know who does the selection and if they have any expertise in ngTLDs?

I guess the selection made by Monte Cahn himself and his partner(at ROTD) Michael Berkens.

I read that many of the ultra premium names are from one seller.

A couple of years ago it was full of ngtld nearly all registry submissions and were bid up by one and other if I remember. Last year very few as ngtld were already starting on the slide.

Thing is, there are some really great new gtld domains. The selection process had grown weak though. imo

It would be nice if better New Gtlds were chosen and we could let the market decide. Instead, there will be skewed results as many will be pointing to the charts saying how horrible the New G's are.

I personally decided to skip this year any submission of my new gTLD names there. If they want to get there some good new gTLD names with non-premium renewal fees, they should contact domain investors with some ideas/proposals, and not vice versa.

I agree. If they want new tlds in the auction they need to work for it, otherwise they will have a very boring .com auction with few sales.The future is .global, .club, .xyz, not dated tld like .com.

What's the current ratio of .com to ngtld sales?

I think you are only likely to see those from registries or associates.

ntld sales are very strong, most never even get disclosed, it is growing every month, give it ten year and it will be far higher than .com, the tide is going out and some .com grump old people may be swimming naked. Millenials do not like .com, the like new tld.

Wait for the auction, they'll sell most of the ntlds, more than half, and .com sales will be the lowest ever. Next year you will sell alot of ntlds in their auctions because their hip pokcet will hurt when .com doesn't sell.

It is quite similar to .in market ten years ago:

1. Current ngtld players want less competition in the wild west of ngtld space. Those who mine ngtlds today will be Rick Schwartzs/Mike Manns of the future;

2. Generally, ngtld registries don't like domainers and want it all for themselves. Domainers don't want help ngtld registries to compete against them by sharing valuable sales data.

Not always. There are people who does that. Reporting a huge sale with no price or even domain name info.

But there are also people who shares their sales data.

Sometimes buyers want NDA and sometimes not. StillI you can share the domain name under an NDA, of course without disclosing the sale price.

But I get your point, I am as skeptic as you are for the questionable sales reports, not specifically for new gTLDs tho. There are probably more fake sales report with dot com than new gTLDs.

btw I have contacted Monte about this and said,

You might want to fix it for the folks who are submitting their personal information online.

and His response was this;

Doesn’t need one - its just a domain submission page

He might be right cause people do not share their credit card information or what so ever on that page.

Also ssl certificate is not an absolute solution against hackers who steal information online.

But again you are making it easier for the hackers by not getting a SSL certificate to your website.

Well that page contains full name, full addresses, phone numbers and email. It is all the information a hacker needs for a targeted social engineered attack.

The lack of security measures for "clients" and their personal information is ignorant at best. Especially when you consider you can get a certificate for free.
