I thought it would be good to have a thread devoted to what people are most looking forward to at the NamesCon 2019 Conference.

It will be my first NamesCon, so I am really excited about going :xf.smile:! Looking forward to meeting face to face many I have only known online through NPs, excited to meet some of the big names that made this profession, looking forward to learning from experts, anxious to visit all the exhibits.

So why not share what informal exchanges you look forward to, which session topics most interest you, who you particularly look forward to meeting for the first time, which of the roundtables you plan to be at, what exhibitors you want to talk to, etc.

The link to the agenda for the conference is here.

So what are you most looking forward to at NamesCon? This is also a great place for those who have attended past conferences to share tips on making the most off the event.

Bob

PS Since there are already other threads on related topics (like ticket prices, the associated auction, ngTLDs in the auction, the GoDaddy meetup at the conference, and whether NPs should have its own conference) please discuss on those threads things related to those topics. Obviously things related to those topics may be mentioned here, but the detailed discussion should be at the relevant thread.

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
Watching online to see if any one word dot coms meet reserve and sell at auction, to real end users.

Reading your complete trip report!
Watching auction bidding videos posted if any.

I meant to add that I hope to do many interviews to later show up at NameTalent (or in some cases my personal blog or domain info site). Please don't be hesitant to reach out to me if you would like to meet at NamesCon 2019.

I am interested in almost any topic related to domain names, including the following....
  • how domain names played critical roles in business success
  • anecdotes re interesting domain deals
  • legal aspects of domain names
  • new trends
  • tools and products for domain investors
  • domain marketplace
  • tips for those buying and selling domain names
  • personal stories of those involved in the domain business (both from the long-time champions and those new to the field)
  • challenges of being in domain investing
  • new products or services

While it is always hard to pick just one, I am really looking forward to the talk by @Kate Buckley at NamesCon 2019 entitled STORYTELLING IN SALES: HOW TO SPIN A YARN AND LAND A WHALE .

Her personal story is a fascinating one, as @Ron Jackson related in this great DNJournal story.

She has had an amazing year in 2018 selling sleeping (com), snoring (com) and inspection (com), among others, thereby having 3 of the top 25 sales for 2018 according to the DNJournal list.

Ultimately I think we in the domain industry are in the business of helping organizations tell their story (I use that line in my own domain work). I think this talk will help us all learn from a truly creative, generous and successful person on how to do that better.

Can't wait! Her presentation is on Monday at 1 pm. You can see the entire agenda here.

Another session that I am really looking forward to is the Domain Sherpa Review where some of the big names in domains share their secrets to success. It is moderated by Tess Diaz, with speakers Shane Cultra (@Domain Shane), @Michael Cyger and Andrew Rosener (@arosener). It is offered Tuesday at 1 PM. Full agenda here.

What are you particularly looking forward to at NamesCon 2019?

I am looking forward to the update and discussion around the .com Verisign price increase. Nice to see Andrew Allemann of DNWire (@DomainNameWire) who was one of the first to write about the issue and @Zak Muscovitch of ICA who wrote the superb in-depth article at this link on the issue both part of the panel. I expect to learn a lot. It happens on Tuesday at 1 PM.

So what are YOU most looking forward to in the NamesCon 2019 program?

Attendees are the only ones able to bid?

My understanding (possibly wrong) is that only registered conference people are able to attend or bid in the live portion of the auction (the pre and post off course people bid online). Please correct this if I am wrong and someone knows differently. It is my first NamesCon and don't know the organizers directly.

Although I won't be bidding, will definitely be interesting to watch the auction live!

Being the auction is co-run by NameJet, there'll probably be online bidding too. Always has been before.

I see. I thought it would Sotheby's type of thing lol.
How long does it last? Are names are brought up 1 by 1 or is it just like a Sedo ''ending in 3 days''.

Well in early voting I see that the auction and networking/parties are pretty dominant!

This will be my first NamesCon. For those that are pros who attended many, what advice to you have for us attending the first time?

Others reading this who are also attending for the first time, why not identify yourself and let us all know what your expectations/hopes for the event are.

Namescon Live Auction

NameJet and RightOfTheDot are pleased to announce the exclusive Live and Online Auctions at NamesCon Global 2019! These auctions will feature some of the world's most valuable domains, many of which will be priced at no and low reserves.

Most NameJet auctions that typically have a 30-day Pre-Release period followed by a 3-day “active” auction, in this case the auctions are already in active public auction status and will remain so until they close completely. Therefore, any bids placed will automatically be the next highest bid.

RightOfTheDot will conduct the live auction on January 28, 2019 at 4:00 PM Pacific Time at the NamesCon conference at the New Tropicana Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, NV. At this point approximately 120 of the domains listed on NameJet will placed into the live auction which will be conducted in the room at NamesCon. Online participation for the live auction will be possible and more details about that process will be provided shortly.

Click here to have your names considered for inclusion in the auction.

Here is the 2018 list.

It is a 'live' auction both in person bidders and online bidders, just like a normal auction - name up for bid and people bid online or in person. It'll probably be somewhere on NJ, but where I don't know as I don't run the auctions or bid online. I just watch for a few drinks, get bored and go network with others. I do know some that do bid online while they are sitting in on the auction though. If you want the particulars on the auction check with Monty at ROTD or on the NamesCon website to get the details.

Meet as many domainers as you can. Make as many friends as time allows. Learn all you can about companies that can help your business grow. The sessions are not as important as making connections. Let me know if you want to meet in person and learn about Domain Market Pro.

Thanks for great advice!
I look forward to meeting you, and many others, at NamesCon2019!

Would love to hear in this thread from some others attending for the first time, what are your hopes and expectations?

I just published at NameTalent a post on my expectations and hopes for my first NamesCon conference. Essentially meeting people, learning from experts, interviewing people, learning something new, improving legal understanding, visiting vendor booths, listening and maybe changing a few of my views!

You can read my full post here. Thank you.

Overnight I listened to the latest DNW podcast which was with Monte Cahn re domain auction. Very interesting both historically and with respect to this auction, that he views as having the best quality names ever if I heard it right. I also think he said that there were 100,000 domain names suggested, so the 500+ that made it were a pretty select cut. This year people can sign up for their paddles right away. The final choice re which names make the live auction will be, if I heard correctly, made the previous day. Those not at NamesCon can bid online.

Here is link - it was 3 AM when I was listening, and I have bad hearing, so it is possible I got some things wrong!
