Sure.
I know someone who literally "cracked out" on gambling ... and it took a long, long time for him to get back on his feet, IMHO. Here in the U.S., at least, there is no need for broad, full access gambling IMHO. I've seen the dark side of this, firsthand!

Jeff, there is a dark side to many things. Drugs (legal and illegal), drinking, food obsession, smoking, gambling... We are a country of choice, land of the free. Why take away these freedoms because of a small percentage of out-of-control people. I do feel sorry for the people that get in to deep and lose it all, but that is their choice. On the other hand, those same people, had they won money, would take it and run. You have to take the good with the bad but leave freedom of choice in the end. Not everyone makes quality decisions in life and the majority should not be penalized for others poor judgement.

Should we take away food, prescription drugs, booze, tobacco...because some cannot handle it?

I've been reading alot about online gambling lately and am aware that some people are exploiting a loophole by doing it in online games (i.e. Second Life). Charge play money to gamble, bet on sports, etc, however, the catch is that this play money is convertible into real USD. Perhaps something to look into
