So...as I've been researching available .com names and whether they're worth regging (very few are), I've come across several instances where every single domain is available (including .com) but the .info is taken.

What's going on here? Is there some Whois issue that I don't know about, like when the .org line says 'busy' or are people just buying .info names without even noticing that the .com is available?

I know I made some less-than-wise .mobi purchases when I started out a couple months ago, but I definitely had the foresight to check that the .com (and usually several other extensions) were taken... :|

At various times of the year there are coupon codes that allow you to register 10 .infos for the price of one .com. Or register 1 .info for 1/10th the cost of a .com.

I think dotster is allowing $0.99 regs for .infos. Thats the reason. Its so cheap people would be crazy not to.

The vast majority of times though, honestly (from a pure, consistent Reseller perspective) ... those 99 cents .INFO domains are worth less than that, and subsequently drop (non renew) of a result IMHO. :red:

Even though they're inexpensive per initial registration, etc. ... it can quickly add up! Be selective and diversify away from owning just .INFO's. :gl:

As Jeff pointed out, a lot of the reason that .info's are snapped up in some instances over better extensions, is because they do not make it clear that the special promotional offers which have been going on for more than a year, can not be reapplied to a name and names that are transferred will be full price as well. How many of us really knew on our first .info purchase that there would be no way to get that special price for more than 1 year?

yeah, its pretty much the fact they are dirt cheap. i mean, you can get a dot info for less than 2 dollars, and its not uncommon to find them at less than a dollar

Yes, but you can't renew them for that price, you can't transfer them for that price, and you can't buy them from an expired auction and get a year for that price.

There are getting to be quite a few .info's about now like this one fro example http://www.centriforce.com

Sometimes they register the other extensions as well.
